I stared into his eyes, my heart beating faster with each passing second as I repeated his words in my head.
Alvise wanted us to go on a honeymoon… Why?
I couldn’t say a word.
Not even as the waiter finally brought in our order and set everything on the table before walking away.
Alvise’s eyes sparked with a hint of amusement, like he was pleased with how much his words had unsettled me. “Eat your food, Arabella.”
I blinked, and as if finding my voice, I cleared my throat. “I’m not going on a honeymoon with you.”
“We’ll see about that,” he muttered, picking up his cutlery.
I stared at him with wide eyes, itching to say more and argue that the honeymoon was never going to happen, but I decided to leave that argument for later and focus on the food in front of me.
I was starving.
We ate in silence. The kind that seemed normal to onlookers, but was far from the case… At least for me.
The man in front of me seemed completely unbothered, like he hadn’t just casually told me we were going on a honeymoon as a married couple.
“You’re staring.”
I jumped a little as Alvise’s voice cut through the silence.
His attention was fixed on his food, but somehow, he had caught me staring.
“I’m bored.” I mumbled, taking a sip of my wine. “That’s why I’m staring.”
Alvise looked up, raising a brow. “You’re bored?” he asked, sounding almost offended.
I shrugged. “I am. This isn’t exactly an interesting dinner.”
As if to pique his appetite, Alvise leaned back in his seat and tilted his head to the side. “Enlighten me.”
I took a deep breath and released it. “I believe couples have conversations when they’re out eating?” I said. “But it doesn’t matter. We’re not a real couple.”
A cold look settled over his face, his hard eyes almost burning into me and making me uncomfortable.
“You’re right.” Alvise nodded. “We’re not. So eat up so I can get the fuck out of here.”

I flinched at his sudden harshness, but the shock only lasted a second before I resumed eating, ignoring his intense stare that was still fixed on me.
If he wanted to play the cold game, I was more than ready to reciprocate.
I was almost done with my food when the sound of heels clicking against the floor filled the air, announcing someone approaching our table.
“Pakhan?”
My fingers froze over the chopsticks as the familiar voice filled the air, and I sighed.
Here we go again.
It was almost like the Ivanovs sat together and scheduled a plan to ruin my life.
One sister had ruined my mood barely two hours ago, and now another was here to do the same.
And I didn’t even want to get started on their father.
Viktoriya, now walking better with her crutches, walked over and stopped right beside Alvise, smiling widely. “I knew it was you I saw.”
Alvise glanced at her. “Viktoriya.”
She clasped her hands together, a blush staining her cheeks. “I’ve been waiting for your call.”
My face fell, a knot forming in my stomach as a bitter taste settled in my mouth.
I’d always felt like something was off, especially after I saw her in Alvise’s office back in London, and then they were also together when I was in the restaurant with Henry.
What was going on between them?
She liked him… That much was clear, but the question was, did Alvise like her too?
He probably did. Otherwise, he wouldn’t allow her to be around him as much as he did.
Still waiting for a response, Viktoriya cleared her throat. “Pakhan… about what we spoke about…”
With his eyes still on me, Alvise nodded. “We’ll talk about this later.”
Viktoriya bit her lip suggestively, though he wasn’t looking at her. “Thank you.” She said, her voice unnecessarily soft.
It finally clicked.
Aside from whatever they had going on, the little scene she was putting on was just to spite me.
Viktoriya knew I was sitting right opposite him. She wasn’t blind.

She just wanted to piss me off.
“Hi, Viktoriya.”
Her eyes finally landed on me, and slowly, her smile disappeared. “Arabella.”

“You know, we’ve not had time to speak after your…” I pointed at her bandaged leg and shook my head. “Unfortunate situation.”
She scoffed and folded her arms, her mini dress bunching up in the process. “You mean after you ran me over?”
I ignored Alvise’s eyes drilling holes into my face and hummed. “I think you worded that wrong, dear. Your sister made me run you over.”
She huffed, but didn’t respond, like she was done with the conversation.
Well, I wasn’t.
“You know, the same one called Tatiana Ivanov…”
“I know what my sister’s name is!” she hissed, cutting me off.
“I see.” I muttered, smiling. “That means you also know that the man you’re so smitten to speak to broke off his engagement with her.”
The air grew tense, and the tension radiating from the man in front of me was becoming increasingly uncomfortable, but I refused to back down.
Viktoriya rolled her eyes and sneered, “I don’t care about that. It’s none of my business.”
I wasn’t surprised she’d say that. Tatiana had wanted her dead barely two weeks ago.
“Understandable.” I chuckled lightly, tapping my chin. “But do you also know he’s the same man who shot your brother dead? I mean, you were there, right?”
I couldn’t care less about their brother’s death except for the fact that it was traumatic to have his blood all
over me.
He’d have killed me if not for Alvise stepping in, so this was just me trying to get into Viktoriya’s head.
“I was.” She said, pulling me out of my thoughts. “And I still don’t care.”
Her answer sent a chill down my spine, and I finally let my eyes fall on Alvise.
The cold look on his face almost knocked the breath right out of my lungs, and I swallowed.
The warning in his eyes was clear as day.
He wanted me to stop talking… but I didn’t.

“And what about him shooting your father this evening at the gala?” I added, leaning back to look at her. “Have you heard? Or you don’t care about that either?”
Viktoriya blew invisible dust from her nails and moved away from Alvise, walking past me.
“The old man can die for all I care.”
