I wasn’t surprised, but I was definitely intrigued, and as I turned back to watch Viktoriya walk away with her crutches, it became increasingly clear that there was more to her family than met the eye.

I recalled her telling me something about how killing family for power was normal where she came from.

Back then, I found that statement odd, but at some point, I wanted to believe she was exaggerating.

Turns out she was not.

And while it wasn’t clear what the hell was going on, our little interaction today made something clear… Viktoriya was not any less of a devil than Tatiana.

“Are you satisfied?”

I turned back, finding Alvise looking at me, his jaw hard. “Satisfied”?” I shrugged. “Yes. The food is great.”

“You know what I’m talking about.”

“I’m afraid I don’t.” I feigned ignorance, throwing back the rest of my glass of wine and folding my arms.

“Why the fuck did you say all that to her?” Alvise questioned, his voice low and laced with anger.

“Because I wanted to. Wasn’t that clear enough?”

“This would be the very last time today I tell you to watch your tone when you speak to me, Arabella.” He snapped coldly. “The next time, my action will speak for itself.”

I clamped my hands together under the table and dug my nails into my palm. “I can say whatever I want, and

that’s what I did.”

“Tell me,” Alvise mused, stroking his chin, his voice calm but his eyes glaring. “What was the end goal of that conversation you were hoping for?”

“I don’t have to tell you anything.”

“Oh, but you do.” He retorted, each word laced with a harsh edge. “So start fucking talking.”

I felt a pang in my heart, and I hated every second of it.

“You’re dating her, right?” I asked, voicing my thoughts out loud and laughing bitterly. “That’s what this is about?”

Something flickered in his eyes, and while I waited for him to debunk what I said, he adjusted his cufflinks and scoffed. “Why do you think you can question me?”

I glared at him, my foot bouncing on the floor from the rage I failed to control. “Because you shoved your

fucking ring on my finger and forced me to marry you!” I gritted out.

My words were met with silence, with Alvise pulling his phone out of his pocket to reply to a message after it pinged, ignoring me.

Each second that passed cemented my fury, and I vowed in my heart that I was going to make him feel just how much it hurt to be ignored when you were venting your heart out.

“And what if I am?”

I snapped out of my thoughts and raised a brow, not catching what he meant after he finally broke the silence.

“What if you’re what?”

Alvise slid his phone back into his pocket, his face stoic as he asked again, “What if I’m dating Viktoriya? Then what?”

I blinked, bile rising to my throat as a heavy ache settled in my chest.

Disappointment, hurt, heartbreak… I felt it all. Every ugly part of it sank into my soul, leaving me so weak I couldn’t help but feel pathetic.

Until something in me snapped, and then I refused to ever feel the way I felt in that moment again.

Not if I could help it.

“Then go get your bullets ready.” I sneered. “Because I will be entertaining every single man I want in Moscow, and you will have a lot of men to kill.” I promised, my voice laced with so much conviction, it scared

even me.

His eyes flared with rage, and he leaned forward, his jaw hard. “What did you just say?”

I wasn’t done, so I ignored his question and continued. “You want to threaten me with killing them, right? Well, guess who doesn’t give a fuck?” I shrugged. “Me.”

“I’ve been patient with you enough, Arabella.” Alvise warned, “if what you want is to find out just how merciless I can be, then you’re on the right path to.”

“You think you’ve been patient with me?” I laughed bitterly, biting my lip so hard I tasted copper. “I’m the one who was forced to leave London and come here, only to have your family treat me like shit and then you! The least you could do is respect me after you made me marry you.” I snarled, rising from my chair and holding his glaring gaze. “I don’t see how it can get any worse from here.”

“Oh, you will,” he snapped. “And you’ll have yourself to blame for it.”

I turned around. “Color me surprised,” I said, and then I walked away, ignoring his eyes drilling holes into my back as I headed for the door.

I couldn’t care less about the glances thrown at me by the people who’d seen me arrive with Alvise.

I was too pissed to care.

The moment I stepped out of the door, I took a deep breath. And ignoring the guards walking up to me, I walked in the opposite direction, quickening my pace as the desperate need to get away grew stronger.

“Madam!” I heard the guards call, but I didn’t look back.

A few police cars passed, and some slowed, looking at me and wondering if I needed help, but I wasn’t foolish enough to ask any of them for help as I ran.

If the police back in London were under Alvise’s palm, I couldn’t imagine how much control he had over these ones.

A car pulled to a stop in front of me, almost crashing into me and I stopped, my heart racing as I took terrified steps back, squinting my eyes as the driver wound down their windscreen.

Panting heavily, my heart dropped to my stomach as I took in the familiar face, and tears gathered in my

eyes.

“W… William?” I whispered in disbelief, blinking several times to make sure I wasn’t mistaken.

He smiled, winking at me. “We don’t have much time,” he said urgently. “Get into the car, Arabella.”
