Rumed By My Brother’s Best Friend
Commotion
ARABELLA’S POV
A commotion?
Now?
My stomach twisted uncomfortably, frustration and annoyance swirling inside me as Alvise/paused and then, painfully slowly, pulled back.
He held my gaze, looking hesitant, and I sucked in my breath, waiting to see what he was going to do next.
A small part of me wished and hoped he would ignore Andrei, but that hope shattered when he moved back and got out of the bed, walking toward the closet.
Puffing my hair out of my face, I tied it behind my back and sat up, heat rising to my cheeks as everything that had just happened came crashing back down.
It almost happened… Shit.
Alvise returned from the closet a minute later, dressed in a white T-shirt and black pants, and I looked at everything but him, my nerves spiking.
I felt his eyes on me, prickling against my skin, so intense that I finally gave in and turned to look at him.
“Oh.” I gasped, shocked to find him already close to the bed and leaning down.
“I have to go,” he muttered, his eyes searching my face.
I nodded, though there was a pang in my heart, one that had no business being there.
I sighed, giving him a small smile. “It’s fine. You can…”
His lips came down on mine, and he kissed me, slow and soft at first, until it turned rough and Alvise took control, nibbling on my lip and sucking so hard I gasped.
He pulled back and tilted his head to the side, the corner of his lips lifting as if he found my flustered cheeks amusing.
“Go to bed, Arabella,” he said, and then he turned around and headed for the door, unlocking it and walking out before shutting it behind him.
I released a breath I didn’t know I’d been holding and clutched my chest, pressing my swollen hips together.
I needed to freshen up and get dressed for bed, so I picked a change of clothes from the closet and disappeared into the bathroom to freshen up.
Once done, I put on my sweatpants and tank top, but added a hoodie later because it was getting chilly.
Memories of Alvise’s head buried between my legs kept resurfacing, and I tried to shove them down as I slipped under the covers, attempting to get some sleep.
I was about to close my eyes when a loud bang and a crash cut through the air, and I flinched, sitting up on the bed.
What was that?
Another one sounded again, and my doubts were cleared.
It was definitely a gunshot.
I jumped from the bed, my chest tight with worry as I pondered why there would be a gunshot in the house at this time of night.
Andrei had come to call Alvise because there’d been a commotion… Could that be what led to the gunshots?
Who could have been shot?
Was it William… or Alvise?
I shook my head, my legs moving toward the door before I could stop myself.
Mrs. Ivanov pulled her leg away from Tatiana’s hold and looked away, her sharp eyes flaring with anger.
She was pissed.
“Put the gun down,” Alvise said, his harsh, cold command silencing the room, the air suddenly thick with tension.
He was leaning against a wall, his ankles crossed as he watched the scene in front of him.
“I will not!” Alexei yelled, walking up to Alvise but getting stopped by some of his guards.
Alexei shook with rage. “You had the audacity to accuse me of sleeping with your fiancée in front of the brotherhood?”
“Ex-fiancée,” Alvise corrected. “And yes, I did.”
“How dare you!” Alexei sneered. “I’m your father! Do you really think I’d have any interest in a woman you were supposed to marry?”
Alvise pushed off the wall and grabbed his father’s wrist, twisting it until he groaned in pain and the gun fell from his hands.
“I’ve had enough of your crap,” he snapped. “You’ve thrown enough tantrums in the past few days, and it’s enough.” Alvise scoffed. “You know what you did, and you know the punishment that comes with it. Acting like a madman won’t get you out of this one.”
“What’s the evidence?” Alexei snapped. “Do you have any evidence of your claim?”
“I don’t need any.”
“Then your claims are false and mine are right! I have evidence that proves my innocence and exposes you…”
“Cut to the chase,” Alvise snapped. “What evidence do you have?”
A mischievous smile appeared on Alexei’s face, a dark glint in his eyes as he pulled a document from his pocket.
“I have proof that Tatiana’s pregnant.” He snickered. “And it’s for you.”
