I stared at the screen for longer than I wanted to before sliding the damn phone into my pocket and stepping into my car.
Like I’d said, I hated dealing with bullshit.
It unnerved me.
As if I didn’t already have enough unnecessary things on my plate, some stupid fool had decided to add something else to the list.
Perfect.
Igor stepped into the front seat and looked back at me. “Straight to the warehouse, Pakhan?”
“Yes,” I said, glancing at my wristwatch. “Make it fast.”
Igor nodded. “Okay, boss.”
When I’d decided to come on this trip with Arabella, I’d never intended for it to be entirely about work, but with these new developments, it seemed like that was inevitable.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket again as Igor started the engine.
I stared at the screen, reading the text over and over until I had a list of suspects in mind.
I had more than a list.
I had a whole damn textbook.
And as much as Archie getting kidnapped had been unforeseen, I wasn’t going to pretend he hadn’t brought it upon himself.
The fool had left London with absolutely no idea that he was walking straight into the lion’s den.
Unprotected.
It was different for Arabella.
She was my wife and under my direct protection. No one had the right to try to harm her unless they had a death wish. It was the law, and even though that wouldn’t stop most cold-blooded criminals from trying to get to her, it established one undeniable fact: going after her wasn’t going to be easy.
That wasn’t the case for Archie.
So, he had it coming.
Especially after the ruckus he’d caused at the airport, marching up to the security officials and showing them a picture of Arabella.

I stopped in front of the door, nodding at the guards as I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
Now was I going to face him?
For some awkward reason, I knocked, ignoring the curious looks the guards shot my way.
Seconds passed, and then I knocked again, over and over until the doorknob turned and the doorwas pulled open.
I held my breath the moment Alvise came into view, the sight of his dress shirt unbuttoned/halfwaand his tie hanging loosely making him look even more attractive.
“Hi,” I whispered softly.
Blue eyes narrowed as he watched me intently. “Why did you knock? The door was unlocked/
“I know.”
He raised a brow, shook his head, and then turned on his heel, leaving me standing at the door.
Clearing my throat, I walked into the room and shut the door behind me. “You were supposed to say come in,” I mumbled, following him into the closet.
The large space immediately felt smaller than it usually did, and I didn’t need to think far to know it was because of the man sharing the space with me.
“I see,” Alvise muttered, picking out a white T-shirt and grey sweatpants.
I bit my lip, walking to stand beside him as he removed his tie and tossed it into the laundry basket.
“How was your day?” I asked, twisting my fingers together.
I had no idea what had come over me or why I was trying to make small talk, but here I was, unable to stop myself.
Alvise undid the rest of his buttons. “You spent it with me.”
I moved to stand in front of him, my heart beating so fast that I had to place my hand over it to soothe the
ache.
I was nervous.
Why was I nervous?
“But I didn’t see it from your perspective,” I hummed, reaching for the hem of his shirt. “So, how was it?”
“Terrible.”
I blinked, my fingers freezing on his shirt and the polite smile on my lips dropping.
Did he just…
“Terrible?” I huffed in disbelief, looking up at him. “You spent the day with your wife, and you’re calling it terrible?”

Avise’s deep, cold voice was like ice, freezing over every silly thought of starting a conversation that had been swirling in my head.
I dropped my hands from his shirt and turned to leave, but he closed his hand over mine and stepped into my personal space.
“It was terrible because I had to stop myself from shooting someone’s brains out.”
I glanced at him, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear. “And who, dare I ask, did you want toda something so cruel to?”
His hands slid to my waist, and he tugged me closer, his piercing eyes almost hypnotizing as he fixed his full attention on me.
