Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 43

Alvise watched her for a moment, then turned to me. “Why did she ask you to bring over the files?” he asked, his tone cold- and hard.

I fought back the embarrassment and cleared my throat. “I don’t know. She just called me and asked me to bring these here.

He leaned back in his chair and stroked his chin. “If I remember correctly, and I always do, you’re no longer part of the team.”

There. I knew that was coming.

I nodded, ignoring the pang of anxiety in my chest. “Yes. But I was asked to bring the files regardless.”

“I don’t like how disorderly your company is,” he said, a deep scowl on his face. “Only team members are supposed to handle project files.”

I avoided eye contact with him, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing me hurt. “You can ask Miss Leah about it. I’m here on her orders.”

There was silence for a long moment, one that seemed to stretch on for minutes even though it lasted only a few seconds.

“Hand over the files,” Alvise said, breaking the silence.

With shaky legs, I walked toward his desk and held out the files. He reached out and took them before opening them to a page and studying it. His scowl deepened. “These were already sent over yesterday.

My face fell. “Wh… what?”

Alvise dropped the files onto his desk and glanced at me, his blue eyes stoic and cold. “You heard me.”

I shook my head, refusing to believe it. No… Leah despised me. But surely, she wouldn’t go this far just to embarrass me, right? Unfortunately, I wasn’t sure the answer wasn’t yes. She would definitely do this.

“I… I…” My voice shook so much I barely recognized it. I shook my head. “I didn’t know,” I rasped.

med to look at her, now getting a proper view of her designer tweed miniskirt and short-sleeved button-down top.

“You can’t just come in here, interrupt us, then leave,” she said.

Interrupt them? I raised a brow and glanced at Alvise, but he wasn’t looking at us. He was typing on his computer, unbothered by her banter.

I returned my full attention to the blonde Russian, as I’d now dubbed her. “Like I said, I wasn’t aware that the files had already been delivered.”

“Lies!” she snapped, taking a step closer. “I know your type. You can’t him.” She eyed me from head to toe and scoffed. “You’re not his type.”

Hurt, pain and embarrassment. Those feelings seemed to be consistently inevitable whenever I was around Alvise. I shouldn’t feel this hurt, but I did. I shouldn’t feel so sad, but I did. My heart ached, and so did my head. Somehow, hearing those words only seemed to mess with my thoughts. They sent my mind into overdrive, just like they were now, at this moment.
