A Pleasant Surprise?

ARABELLA’S POV

“Girl! I think it’s been forever since I last saw you!” Sierra screeched as I walked into the office.

I rolled my eyes but rushed toward her and hugged her. “We literally saw each other on Friday!” I said, chuckling..

“Yeah, but that doesn’t hit the same, you know?” Sierra said, pulling back and staring at my face. “You look like a goddess.” She fanned her face. “Unreal.”

I glanced at my burgundy maxi dress and grinned. “I try. But we both know you’re the one really killing it in that jumpsuit.”

Sierra grinned, a blush staining her cheeks. “This is why you’re my best friend.”

I laughed as I made my way to my desk and sat down, dropping my purse on the table. “And this is why you’re mine/

“So, how did the weekend go?” she asked, glancing at me.

I sighed. “It was okay,” I said and briefed her on everything that had happened, leaving out the part with Francesca. “What about yours?” I asked, wiggling my brows.

She bit her nail. “Well… I spent it with my boyfriend?”

I screeched in excitement, a huge grin spreading across my face. “Look at you! You’re glowing and all!”

Sierra smiled and was about to reply when Leah walked into the office, cutting her off.

I sighed, my face falling as I took in the sight of her. She had on blue pants and a white dress shirt, and she wore the biggest frown.

“And what do we owe this delightful visit?” I asked, sarcasm dripping from my voice.

After she set me up and intentionally sent me to Kade’s office to embarrass myself, I stopped holding back and let her know that the dislike she had for me was mutual. If she was going to hate me for no reason, then I was more than happy to give her one.

Leah narrowed her eyes. “I don’t want to be here any more than you want me here.”

“That’s highly debatable, considering how often you frequent our office.” I leaned back in my chair. “Don’t you think?”

She glanced at her wristwatch. “I don’t have time for your drama…”

“Then cut to the chase, for goodness’ sake!” Sierra chimed in, cutting her off. “You always say this, but you drag the conversation out.” She shook her head. “Like I said, you’re obsessed.”

I watched, amused, as Leah clenched her hands into fists and took a deep breath, as though trying to calm herself down.

“You.” She pointed at me, her jaw hardening. “You’re back on the team.”

My brows shot up, my breath catching in my throat as I stared at her, shocked and perplexed. “What?”

“You heard me,” she gritted out, annoyance coating her words. “And there’s a meeting in thirty minutes.” With that, she turned around and stomped out of the office.

I glanced at Sierra, only to find her already watching me, looking just as shocked as I was.

I blinked, certain I’d misheard until her words properly registered, and I gasped. “I’m back on the team?” I asked in disbelief.
