Impending Doom

ARABELLA’S POV

“Thank you,” I said, leaning over the side mirror and giving Alvise a small wave.

If he hadn’t insisted on bringing me here, I would’ve ended up stranded because not all cars were allowed into the exclusive district where his penthouse was located.

I’d only found that out when I spotted the sign by the street as we drove past. I hadn’t noticed it the night before because had been dark.

Alvise glanced at me before starting the engine, but he didn’t respond.

I pushed away from the car and took a step back, watching as he pulled away. I stood there for a long moment, watching his retreating Maybach until it disappeared from sight before finally turning toward Archie’s apartment.

Something caught my eye from the top floor. When I looked up, I caught a figure hidden behind the curtains, staring down

at me.

It was Archie’s room, so I already knew who it was.

Francesca.

I closed my eyes and exhaled before heading into the building. The ride up in the elevator was torture, my mind conjuring one awful scenario after another about what might happen the moment I stepped inside.

I didn’t have to wait long to find out because I was already standing in front of the door. Smoothing my hands over my dress, I rang the doorbell.

The door flew open a few seconds later. “Little Bella,” Archie said with a smile as he adjusted his tie. “How are you?”

I smiled and stepped inside to help him fix it. “I’m fine,” I said, straightening his tie as I finished adjusting it. “Are you off to work this early?”
