Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 98

A few seconds passed before he answered. “Did I now?” he asked, raising a brow.

I tried to stop it, but a smile spread across my lips, and I bit down on my lower lip to hide it. His gaze dropped there, and something shifted in his expression. His eyes darkened, the blue in them burning with an intensity that instantly erased the smile from my face.

The elevator doors slid open, and he walked out without another word, his strides confident and unhurried. I stepped out after him, releasing a breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding.

We walked past his secretary, who shot to her feet the moment she saw him, a wide smile spreading across her face. “Good morning, sir!”

Her smile faltered the instant she noticed me, dissolving into a frown. “Good morning, ma’am.”

“Good morning,” I replied before hurrying after Alvise, who was already pushing open the door to his office.

He held the door open for me before closing it once I stepped inside. I took a seat while watching him open one of his drawers and pull out a few notepads before handing one to me.

I raised a brow, my pulse quickening. “Is…” My voice cracked. “Is it a conference meeting?”

Alvise glanced up from the document in his hand. “Yes. Why?”

I shook my head, my heart pounding even faster. The memory of the last meeting slammed into me without warning, and the thought of stepping into another conference room, especially knowing the man who had kidnapped me was working here, made every nerve in my body tighten.

“Arabella,” Alvise called softly. “You’re shaking again.”

I clasped my hands together and crossed my ankles, trying to still the trembling.

Alvise rose from his chair and rounded the desk, stopping in front of me. He leaned down until his face hovered just inches from mine. “What’s the problem?”

Against my better judgment, I whispered, my voice breaking, “I’m… I’m scared.”
