Chapter 21
Stellan saw Irene standing in front of the car door.
She waved at him, a bright smile blooming on her rosy, fair face.
“Stellan, look, it’s the sunset!”
Golden light spilled over the earth, bathing the world before his eyes in a layer of gold, yet it seemed to shine on everything except Irene.
For a moment, Emma’s terrified question echoed in his mind.
“Who are you talking to?”
Stellan felt a wave of dizziness, and his heart suddenly tightened with panic.
He looked over anxiously; Irene was still standing there, arms outstretched, feeling the wind and sand pass through her body, through her fingertips.
“Rene!”
Stellan rushed forward and pulled Irene into his arms, only feeling at ease when he could sense everything about her.
Irene patted his back soothingly. “What’s wrong?”
Stellan buried his head in her neck and shook his head.

“I’m just very happy.”
He was happy that Irene no longer spoke to him harshly as she used to.
He was happy that even if Irene’s words were still sharp, there was now a trace of cuteness in them.
He was happy that Irene was always by his side and was not ill.
However, what Stellan failed to notice was the strange looks from the passersby around him.
“Stellan, shall we continue our journey?” Irene smiled gently, her eyes
soft.
Stellan took her hand, lowering his gaze to her, still somewhat absent- minded.
“Rene, will you leave me?”
He gripped Irene’s hand tightly, not daring to hear the answer himself.
“Never mind, don’t tell me.”
After saying this, he secretly despised his own cowardice.
“I won’t leave you.” Irene looked at him and answered firmly, just as she had seven years ago, on the day they watched the golden sunlight on Mount Foraker together.
Stellan said, “I love you!”
With tears in her eyes, Irene threw herself into his arms and replied, “Stellan, I love you.”

In the afterglow of the setting sun, Irene answered once more, “Stellan, I won’t leave you.”
Just like before.
There were no trivial quarrels, no helplessness over daily necessities, no heart–wrenching arguments.
All that remained was the tolerance they had when they first fell in love.
Stellan gazed at her with burning eyes, pressed his forehead to hers, and smiled softly with reddened eyes.
“Rene, let’s go.”
“Benefactor! We forgot to take a photo together!”
Emma ran out from the hospital, still holding her camera.
Stellan and Irene stopped in unison.
Emma hurried to explain, “You are the ninth kind stranger we’ve met on our honeymoon who was willing to lend us a helping hand.”
Her face was full of sincerity.
“Let’s take a photo together. I’ll write about this experience in a blog post and share it online. Is that okay?”
Irene’s eyes brightened a little. She tugged at Stellan’s hand, her voice tinged with a hint of playful pleading.
“Stellan, say yes!”
