Chapter 11 Not Allowed to Let Alden Touch You
A tight and simmering anger sat in Alden’s chest. Irritated, he yanked at his collar and was just about to head out to look for her when he heard someone arguing when he came downstairs.
“Kiera is pregnant. She can’t stay hungry. I don’t think we should keep waiting.”
Dinner had long been prepared, but Henrietta Blackwell refused to let everyone start eating because Thalia hadn’t returned.
Josephine Marwood, who had been holding back her frustration all evening, couldn’t help but finally explode. “Even if Thalia comes back, there’ll still be leftovers, won’t there? It’s not like she’ll starve. At worst, she knows how to cook. She can make something for herself!”
Henrietta slammed the table. “Is the Crestfall family so poor that she has to eat scraps?”
josephine realized she had said the wrong thing and upset Henrietta, so she quickly softened her tone. “Henrietta, that’s not what I meant.”
“What did you mean, then?” Henrietta’s face darkened as she defended Thalia. “Don’t think that I have no idea how you’ve been treating Lia while I wasn’t home.
“Josephine, I always ask myself whether I have ever mistreated you as a mother–in–law. And now that you’re someone’s mother–in–law, aren’t you afraid of karma when you’re treating your daughter–in–law like this?”
Kiera tugged gently on Josephine’s sleeve with a look of innocence. “Josephine, I’m not hungry. I can wait.”
She said that, yet her hand was pressed against her stomach.
That only made Josephine more anxious. “How have I ever mistreated Thalia? I’ve provided her with the finest food and clothing all these years. Alden has done a great deal for the Marquette family as well. We’ve given her so much, yet she shows no gratitude.
“You saw it yourself today. She had no respect for me at all and deliberately made Kiera uncomfortable. Now that Kiera is pregnant, she throws a tantrum and makes things difficult instead of showing respect or caring for her sister–in–law.
“She’s been spoiled for too long. If we don’t correct her, she’ll forget who’s the real lady of the house!”
Henrietta was so furious that she clutched her own chest. “The one who doesn’t know about gratitude is you!”
Josephine was unwilling to concede. “Henrietta, you’re biased toward Thalia! That’s why she-”
Henrietta cut her off in anger. “That’s enough! Thalia is the future matriarch of the house. She doesn’t need to serve anyone. She’s kind, tolerant, and gentle. She would’ve fought back if not for the bullying she endured in this house!
“Let me make it clear today–Thalia is the rightful lady of this household. I’d like to see who dares to order her around again!

“Henrietta—“|
Josephine was about to continue protesting when Alden came down from upstairs. “Thalia said she had something to handle
and would be late before she left earlier this afternoon.
“Mom is right–Kiera needs nourishment the most now. We no longer have to wait. I’ll have the household staff prepare food for Thalia when she gets back.”
Henrietta pointed at Josephine and Alden before her glare landed on Kiera. “Good. The three of you are sticking together. You can go ahead and eat. I’ll wait here for Lia.”
With that, she left her seat in disappointment.
Kiera lowered her head, looking fragile and guilty. “It’s all my fault that Henrietta is upset.”

Josephine comforted her. “Silly child, the one at fault is Thalia. Don’t put everything on yourself.
“Who knows where she’s off fooling around at this hour? That’s enough. Stop thinking about her. My precious grandchild must be starving. Here, have some broth. It’s good for you.”
She bustled about, serving broth, picking dishes, and fussing over Kiera.
Meanwhile, Alden had no appetite at all.
Thalia had always kept to her proper place and never gotten too close to the opposite gender. Yet, she was out with another man tonight and hadn’t returned.
Alden finally lost patience after thinking that her input was still required for the Chromia Retreat project. “You all can eat without me. I have something to attend to and need to go out now.”
Two naked bodies were tightly entangled on the couch..
Thalia’s sudden retching shattered the passionate moment. She shoved Tyren away, clutching her chest as she vomited into a
trash can.
Tyren suppressed his desire and patted her back.
Thalia’s face flushed even deeper when she finally finished, her whole body weak and limp as she fell back into his arms.
“Hey, let me tell you a secret.” She buried her face in his chest, her hand still squeezing his muscles. “My husband cheated on me with his own sister–in–law. Isn’t that disgusting?”
