Preston’s eyes, deep as the sea, gazed at Melanie.
He saw the astonishment in her eyes and thought for a moment.
“Because… I was hungry.”
The overly simple answer made Melanie chuckle.
“Well, I’m hungry too. Running into you here feels like fate. Want to eat together?”
The word “fate” caused a faint ripple in Preston’s dark eyes.
Melanie waited a moment, but Preston didn’t say yes.
She felt a little awkward. Just then, Preston took the initiative to lift the door curtain for her.
Melanie thanked him without any further pleasantries.
She entered the shop first and chose a seat by the window.
Preston followed close behind, first grabbing two lychee-flavored sodas from the drink cooler. He then sat down across from her and placed one of the bottles in front of her.
Melanie was taken aback.
“You like lychee soda too?”
“…Yes,” Preston nodded, then opened the bottle for her.
Melanie didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
She had noticed from their first meeting that Preston was a man of few words, with an aura as cold as ice.
Yet, he would order takeout for her, switch seats for her, and now hold the door and open her bottle.
They all seemed like small things, but they were surprisingly thoughtful.
“What kind of Pizza do you want?”
“Just so you know, this one’s on me. Thanks for your help before.”
Preston took the menu and quietly said, “Okay.”
He ordered quickly. When Melanie got the menu back, she saw that Preston had ordered Steak Pizza.
Ordered two steak pizzas
“Are you eating two?”
“No… the other one is for you.”
Melanie tilted her head.
“How did you know I like steak pizza?”
“I…” Preston’s deep, magnetic voice paused.
“I guessed… because steak pizza is the shop’s specialty.”
