Melanie was completely lost.
What did Preston understand?
Did he understand that she had deliberately given the Hale Group’s project with Luminaria Aesthetic Institute to Evelyn?
Or did he understand that she had transferred to Dominic’s new company so she could make him leave with nothing on the day of their divorce?
Melanie didn’t say anything more, just stared at Preston with curiosity, watching as he finished his food.
As Nathaniel's daughter, Melanie had been surrounded by the rich and powerful most of her life.
Wastefulness was an everyday occurrence for those people.
Although she didn’t know Preston’s family background, judging by his clothes, manners, and speech, his family was certainly well-off.
Otherwise, he couldn’t have gotten into Luminaria Aesthetic Institute through a backdoor connection.
And yet, a man like Preston had finished all the food.
“What is it?” Preston asked softly, noticing her gaze.
“Nothing,” Melanie shook her head.
“Are you full? We can order more if you’re not.”
“I’m full.”
“Well… it’s getting really late. Should we go now?”
“Okay.”
Melanie was getting used to Preston’s economy of words.
It wasn’t until they stepped outside the shop that she realized it had started to rain.
The summer downpour had come suddenly. Melanie hadn't brought an umbrella and could only stare helplessly at the torrential rain.
Beside her, Preston stood under the eaves, shoulder to shoulder with her.
It was pitch black outside, and the rain was pouring.
A young woman like Melanie should have felt scared, but with Preston there, she actually found the atmosphere quite pleasant.
The air was fresh, and the occasional raindrop on her face brought a cool sensation.
Preston’s deep eyes glanced sideways, and he saw the glistening raindrops on Melanie’s face.
He subconsciously raised his hand, but before his white glove could get wet, he pulled it back.
The dense curtain of rain gradually blurred their figures.
Dominic had always claimed that only she could sit in his passenger seat.
But in reality, in their four years of marriage, Dominic had never once opened the car door for her.
Not to mention that the passenger seat had long become Evelyn’s exclusive spot.
Melanie scoffed coldly and got into Preston’s car.
“Where do you live?” Preston asked as he started the car.
“I’m not going home.”
The car instantly fell silent, the rhythmic swish of the windshield wipers suddenly very clear.
Preston turned his head to look at Melanie.
Melanie wasn't oblivious to Preston’s probing gaze.
At this hour, for a woman to tell a man she wasn't going home could easily be misinterpreted.
Melanie didn’t want Preston to get the wrong idea and was about to give him the address of the Eclipse Noir Club.
But Preston spoke first, his voice steady and calm.
“Then how about… we go to my place?”
