She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 148

"You're a Corbett?" Sylvie looked down at the entry pass hanging around Abby's neck. The name 'Abby Corbett' was printed in bold, undeniable letters.

She really was a Corbett!

Which meant this woman was *not* Caspian's date?

And since she had marched straight up to Dr. Atherton the moment she walked in, she must be an employee of the institute.

Realizing she had made a massive fool of herself in front of a staff member from The Conrad Atherton Institute, Sylvie looked at Herbert in sheer panic.

Herbert felt equally humiliated. He offered Abby a strained, awkward smile. "My apologies. We mistook you for someone else."

Abby gave the two of them a highly skeptical look before briskly walking out the door.

Backstage, Hulda had just finished changing and sorting her presentation files when Dr. Lowe informed her that her mentor had arrived.

The thought of Dr. Atherton dragging his fragile, failing body all the way here just to support her filled her with immense guilt. She decided she absolutely had to see him before taking the stage.

She was nearing the entrance to the hall when she bumped into Abby, who was muttering to herself with a weird expression on her face.

"What is wrong with people? So weird," Abby grumbled.

"What's wrong?" Hulda asked.

"Nothing, just a couple of weirdos stopped me on my way out," Abby explained.

"I see." Hulda handed her laptop and documents to her assistant. "Hold onto these for me. Bring them up with Dr. Lowe when the launch officially starts."

Abby dutifully took them. "What about you, Director Atherton? Aren't you going to walk out with Dr. Lowe?"

This was her idol's first public appearance; she deserved a dramatic entrance.

With the event just moments away from starting, anyone walking in this late was bound to draw attention, let alone a woman this breathtaking.

"That woman..." The bespectacled executive spotted her first. He shot to his feet, pointing straight at her.

The woman who kept harassing their CEO!

Wasn't she supposed to be a cleaner?

Why was she dressed like *that* in the main hall?

Hearing his gasp, Herbert and Sylvie instantly looked toward the doors.

When their eyes landed on the transformed Hulda, both of them froze completely.

Herbert's breath caught in his throat, his gaze locked intensely onto her.
