Caspian's sudden appearance caught Herbert completely off guard.
The sheer, oppressive weight of the man's condescending glare made him incredibly uncomfortable.
But what baffled him most was that this was a private dispute between him and his wife. It had absolutely nothing to do with Caspian.
*He probably just walked by and overheard me,* Herbert rationalized.
After all, how could a bitter, jealous housewife like Hulda possibly know someone of Caspian Sterling's caliber?
Herbert's original plan was to throw Hulda out before she caused a scene.
But Caspian's intervention had practically every eye in the venue turning their way.
Suppressing the intense discomfort of being watched, Herbert maintained a forced smile and addressed the billionaire. "Mr. Sterling, this is a private matter between her and me. We'll handle it ourselves."
He assumed a cold, aloof man like Caspian would lose interest and walk away after hearing that.
To his shock, Caspian didn't leave. Instead, he moved to stand directly beside Hulda.
The icy arrogance he had directed at Herbert completely vanished. When Caspian looked down at Hulda, his gaze was remarkably soft. "Do you still have 'private matters' with him?"
Hulda was hyper-focused on reaching her mentor and didn't even notice the protective undertone in Caspian's voice.
Her face remained completely cold as she violently wrenched her wrist free from Herbert's grip. "No. I have absolutely nothing to do with him."
With that, she turned her back on Herbert and began walking toward the front of the hall.
"Hulda!" Herbert's eyes flashed with rage. He lunged forward to grab her again, only to be forcefully shoved back by a powerful arm.
It was Caspian.
He stood tall and unyielding, a dangerous, predatory warning radiating from his sharp features.
"She said she has nothing to do with you. Are you deaf?" The billionaire's voice was dangerously low, like a lion preparing to slaughter its prey.
The shove caught Herbert off balance, sending him stumbling several steps backward.
"Ah! Mr. Jewell!" Sylvie shrieked, rushing forward to catch him.
Beside him, Sylvie stared at Caspian's retreating back, her eyes wide with unadulterated shock.
It couldn't be true. There was no way it was Hulda!
Why would a top-tier billionaire like Caspian Sterling ever look twice at a pathetic housewife?
They desperately tried to deny reality, yet they could only watch in horrified silence as Hulda walked straight up to the very front row and stopped in front of Dr. Atherton.
"She..." Herbert's eyes trembled violently.
Hulda actually knew Dr. Atherton?
Ignoring the crowd, Hulda carefully inspected the old man from head to toe. Seeing that his complexion looked decent, she finally let out a breath of relief. "Why are you here? How are you feeling? Does anything hurt?"
"Stop looking at me like that. I'm perfectly fine," Dr. Atherton mumbled. Acting like a rebellious child caught by a strict parent, his eyes darted away guiltily. "Besides, I brought the doctors with me. I know my own body!"
Seeing Hulda's eyes turning slightly red with worry, he quickly puffed out his chest and put on a gruff exterior. "I'm just here to supervise you! If you mess up your presentation today and embarrass me, just see how I'll punish you!"
