Dr. Atherton's words made Hulda let out a soft chuckle.
How could she not know her mentor's true intentions?
The feeling of being cared for spread a comforting warmth through her entire body, instantly sweeping away the lingering gloom of Herbert's harassment and filling her with renewed energy.
Caspian strolled leisurely past Hulda, his eyes fixed on her the entire time, before taking his seat.
Even so, Hulda didn't spare the man a single glance; all her attention remained devoted to her mentor.
The two spoke in hushed tones, making it impossible for anyone but those seated immediately next to Dr. Atherton to hear them.
The crowd could only watch as the young woman—who had just been in a scuffle at the entrance—stood beside the esteemed doctor, chatting and laughing with him.
Obviously, Dr. Atherton knew her.
Everyone grew curious about the beautiful young woman's identity, especially recalling how Caspian seemed to have stepped in to help her earlier.
Was it because of Caspian that this girl even had the chance to speak with Dr. Atherton?
After all, the rest of them could only hover around and exchange brief, polite greetings.
Aside from a few heavyweight titans of the industry, no one else had the privilege of a private conversation with the old man.
Yet this young woman, who arrived later than everyone else, managed to get his undivided attention right off the bat. Most shockingly, none of the institute's staff stepped forward to stop her.
The gathered corporate elites could think of no other explanation but Caspian's influence.
Sure enough, young, beautiful women had the ultimate advantage. By hooking up with a man like Caspian, she could easily secure opportunities others fought tooth and nail for.
Once Caspian walked away, the bespectacled man and the rest of the H&J team finally approached.
"Mr. Jewell, isn't that the woman who's always pestering you? Why is she talking to Dr. Atherton? Does she know him?" the bespectacled man asked in shock.
People like them didn't even have the credentials to go up and say hello.
Wasn't that woman just here to work as a cleaner?
Wearing such flashy clothes was one thing, but to actually waltz up and converse with the great Dr. Atherton?
Who on earth was she?!
The bespectacled man noticed Herbert and Sylvie still standing frozen and gently reminded them, "Mr. Jewell, Ms. Sinclair, we should sit down. It's about to start."
"Mr. Jewell..." Sylvie tugged anxiously at his arm.
Snapping out of his daze, he muttered, "Right."
His legs moved stiffly toward his assigned seat, but his eyes remained glued to Hulda.
Seeing that she hadn't left Dr. Atherton's side and was still standing right there at the front, his brows knotted together.
Hulda, what exactly are you trying to do?
As soon as Herbert and his group were seated, the conference officially began.
The institute's key figures filed out from the backstage area, with Brandon Lowe leading the pack.
He stepped up to the microphone. Unlike his usual strictly business demeanor, he looked exceptionally thrilled today. "Hello, everyone. I am Brandon Lowe from The Conrad Atherton Institute. Today marks the official relaunch of our Quantum Crystal Laboratory. Now, it is my great honor to formally introduce to you the new Director of our R&D Center, who is also the founder of the Quantum Crystal Laboratory and the sole developer of the Quantum Crystal Oscillator Gyroscope—"
"Ms. Hulda Atherton!"
