As Brandon's voice echoed through the hall, the spotlight followed his pointing finger, landing squarely on Hulda, who stood gracefully beside Dr. Atherton.
A stunned silence washed over the room before erupting into thunderous applause.
No one had expected the new Director of the R&D Center to be such a young woman!
But that wasn't even the main point!
The real shock was that she was the founder of the lab and the genius behind the Quantum Crystal Oscillator Gyroscope!
This groundbreaking invention had been lightyears ahead of its time eight or nine years ago, and she was the one who had created it!
The people who had just assumed she was clinging to Caspian for a chance to speak with Dr. Atherton were now entirely speechless.
It turned out she didn't need to ride Caspian's coattails at all. She possessed more than enough talent and capital to shock everyone in the room all on her own.
For a moment, the venue was filled with rising applause and fervent whispers.
Every single word pierced right through Herbert and Sylvie.
In the back row, the bespectacled man wore an exaggerated look of pure shock. "Wait... so, you're telling me the woman who 'kept pestering you'... she's actually Dr. Atherton's most prized protégé?!"
"She... she didn't sneak in to be a cleaner. She's the new Director of the R&D Center, and she's here to host the conference?!"
The man didn't bother keeping his voice down, and every syllable hit Herbert like a sledgehammer.
With every word he heard, his body went a fraction stiffer.
When he watched Hulda confidently walk up the stage with a poised smile and take her place next to Brandon, the tight string of denial in his mind finally snapped.
"Hulda!" he suddenly shot up from his seat, his eyes wide with absolute disbelief.
He simply couldn't fathom that his wife of seven years—the same woman he had coldly despised and ignored—was the elusive R&D Director he had spent so much time and effort desperately trying to meet.
Following Brandon's words, the on-site security detail zeroed in on Herbert.
Herbert snapped out of his daze. Breathing heavily and erratically, he slowly sank back into his chair.
Yet, his gaze remained locked on Hulda, who stood beside Brandon.
A polite, graceful smile never left her face; she looked entirely unaffected by his sudden interruption.
She merely swept a faint, detached glance over him.
It was as if he were nothing more than an insignificant stranger in the crowd.
Once order was restored, Brandon continued, "Now, I will hand the stage over to Director Atherton."
Hulda gave Brandon a slight nod. Stepping up to the podium, she leaned into the microphone, faced the massive audience, and formally began. "Hello, everyone. I am Hulda Atherton."
