He violently hurled the phone onto the couch. "That woman!"
When Miles saw that the call had actually been cut off, his eyes welled up with tears.
He had graciously called her and told her to come back. Why did she still say no?!
The more he thought about it, the more wronged he felt, and he burst into loud sobs.
"Mommy is bad! I don't want her anymore! I never want her again!"
Cora Jewell and Sylvie happened to run into each other at the courtyard entrance. As they walked in, they walked straight into the chaos.
Seeing her nephew bawling his eyes out, Cora didn't even bother taking off her shoes. She rushed over, scooped the boy into her arms, and cooed, "Miles, what's wrong? Who's picking on you?"
Between hiccuping sobs, Miles cried, "I don't want Mommy anymore! I never want her again!"
"Hulda?" Cora frowned deeply, looking over at Valery. "What did she do to him now? She's already divorced from my brother, why does she still have the nerve to cause trouble here?"
Cora had been out of town on a trip with friends to clear her head, so she was completely out of the loop.
Valery was far too exhausted to explain everything to her daughter right now.
Judging by Wade's explosive reaction, Hulda had clearly rejected him, and brutally at that. Otherwise, he wouldn't be this furious.
"Dad, Mom..." Sylvie spoke up, her voice timid. "I'm here to take Miles home."
Valery cast a side-eye at her and gave a barely perceptible nod, completely stripped of her usual warmth and affection.
While comforting the boy, Cora caught her mother's icy demeanor and frowned in confusion.
When Miles spotted Sylvie, he squirmed out of his aunt's arms and launched himself directly into Sylvie's embrace. "Sylvie..."
Sylvie was the best! From now on, she was the only mom he needed!
