Justin's eyes never left Hulda.
She was thoroughly engrossed in her book, completely oblivious to the burning gaze locked onto her.
It wasn't until the light above her was blocked out that she snapped back to reality. Assuming it was a waiter, she looked up—only to find Justin Jameson hovering over her table.
He was fidgeting awkwardly, looking like he was struggling to find the right words.
Hulda just stared at him.
Was she seeing things?
Was this guy actually blushing?
Is he unwell?
"Are you..." Justin finally croaked out.
But before he could get the rest of the sentence out, someone tapped him on the back of the shoulder.
He startled and whipped around, coming face to face with a young woman giving him an awkward smile. "You must be Justin, right? Mr. Jameson?"
Hearing his full name drop from a total stranger's mouth instantly popped the joyful bubble in his chest.
He gave a stiff nod. "Yeah, that's me."
The woman politely offered her hand. "I'm so sorry, I had to step into the restroom. I'm the one Ms. Warren set you up with. My name is—"
Justin stared at her, a high-pitched ringing filling his ears.
He didn't even process her name. All he realized was that he had just made a colossal mistake.
His blind date wasn't Hulda. It was this woman.
Whatever excitement he had left vanished completely.
