She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 288

A dreamless night. The next day, Hulda woke up early.

She stepped out onto the small balcony, taking deep breaths of the fresh mountain air and stretching her arms wide.

Remembering the noise she thought she heard the night before, she instinctively glanced over at the balcony of the room next door.

The door was locked, and the windows were shut tightly. It didn't look like anyone was staying there at all.

She figured her sleepy brain must have been playing tricks on her last night.

Today was the first day of Hulda's renewed tech-assistance project in the mountains. She spent the entire morning working with local monitors and forest rangers to select the site for the new monitoring station.

After that came the construction of the station and the transportation and calibration of the heavy equipment.

Once she wrapped up her work, Hulda returned to the guesthouse, grabbed the clothes she had bought for Katherine, and headed toward the town's primary school.

But when she arrived, she found out that the displaced residents were no longer staying there.

After asking around, she learned they had been relocated to a centralized temporary housing area. Luckily, the new site wasn't far from the school.

Since they were no longer at the school, Hulda didn't linger. She turned around, intending to head back to the town hall to ask Zane for the exact location of Katherine and Mrs. Gable's new housing.

Before she even reached the school gates, her phone rang.

Glancing at the caller ID and seeing it was the institute, she answered the call.

She continued walking out of the gates while chatting on the phone.

Just then, a tall, thin man walked into the schoolyard from outside.

Seeing her, the man gave her a polite nod.

Hulda didn't know him, assuming he was a teacher or staff member at the school, so she just smiled politely in return. Then, she walked out of the gates, still on her phone.
