She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 308

Later that night, having finished her work for the day, Hulda relaxed in her room, casually flipping through a book she had picked up at the bookstore.

It wasn't overly hot out, so she had left the balcony door open, letting the cool, refreshing evening breeze drift in. It was incredibly peaceful.

Just as she reached a good part in her book, her phone rang.

The caller ID showed an unknown number.

Hulda stared at the screen for a moment before answering.

"Hello, who is this?" she asked softly.

In the past, she rarely picked up calls from unknown numbers.

But things were different now. She couldn't risk missing an important work call. As long as it didn't look like an obvious scam, she answered.

There was only silence on the other end of the line.

Frowning slightly, Hulda pulled the phone away from her ear to double-check the number. It looked perfectly normal.

She repeated, "Hello? Who is this?"

Just as she was about to hang up, a man's voice finally came through.

"Hulda, it's me." The voice was deeply familiar and rich.

It was Herbert.

Hulda’s grip on the phone tightened, a flicker of annoyance crossing her eyes.

He obviously knew she wouldn't answer if she saw his name, so he had used a different number.

"Herbert, there's nothing left to say. I've already made it perfectly clear: I am not joining your father's Go Academy, and I am certainly not competing in the Master's Cup for him. If your family keeps harassing me like this, I’ll have to get a restraining order."

Hearing his voice, she immediately assumed the Jewells were still aggressively trying to recruit her.
