With the call abruptly disconnected by Miles, Hulda stood rooted to the spot, staring blankly at her phone screen.
"Director, is everything okay?" Abby asked, noticing Hulda's clearly distressed expression.
"Hmm?" Hulda snapped out of her daze and offered a reassuring smile to her concerned colleague. "I'm fine. Let's go, we shouldn't keep Dr. Lynch waiting."
"Alright," Abby nodded.
Judging by the few words she had overheard, Abby guessed the caller was the director's son.
The kid must have said something hurtful to make her look so devastated.
It really goes to show, kids are entirely different from one another.
Katherine, for instance, was covered in dirt and had never known a day of proper care. Yet, she was incredibly loyal and brave. She would risk her life for her grandmother, and to protect Hulda—a virtual stranger—she had fearlessly fought off a pack of wild dogs.
But then there was Hulda's own son, capable of spewing the cruelest words and deeply hurting his own flesh and blood.
When you think about it, life really isn't fair.
Abby pressed her lips together and quietly followed Hulda toward the new site.

Miles stood at the doorway of Finn's room. Seeing that the decor and layout were nearly identical to his own, a deep sense of discomfort washed over him.
He hated that Finn got to use the same things as him. He hated it a lot. Beneath his anger, a subtle, creeping anxiety began to take root in his young mind.
Inside the room, Sylvie was entirely focused on tutoring Finn and hadn't noticed Miles standing at the door.
"Finn, focus on your handwriting. The stroke order on this character is wrong. Erase it and rewrite it." Sylvie didn't give Finn a chance to argue, simply grabbing an eraser and wiping away his mistake.
Miles, watching from the doorway, allowed a gleeful smirk to cross his face.
Serves Finn right. He hoped Sylvie made him rewrite the entire page!
Hulda used to sit by his side and tutor him exactly like this. When she spotted a mistake, she would erase it and make him do it again.
