"The truth is, you can't entirely blame Herbert either. He's been incredibly stressed lately because of the company. And honestly? The issues with both his company and Dad's chess club boil down to Hulda's decisions. She completely refused to help, which left Herbert pulling his hair out over his business. When a man is that stressed, his patience runs thin, and his temper explodes."
Sylvie watched Cora's reaction closely. Seeing her sister-in-law's expression instantly shift, she pushed further. "And about the allowance issue from before... I really didn't do that on purpose. Think about it—if Hulda had just mentioned it to Herbert the very first time the money was short, you wouldn't have kept doing it, right? But she intentionally kept her mouth shut, just to make you think she didn't need the money."
It was the perfect excuse, handing Cora a way to fully justify her own actions. *Exactly,* she thought. *If Hulda had just brought it up right away like Sylvie did, I wouldn't have had the chance to keep taking it.*
"Ugh, she is so manipulative!" Cora spat, her face twisting with resentment.
Pressing her advantage, Sylvie added softly, "Don't worry. Once things settle down, I'll talk to Herbert and convince him to reinstate your allowance."
Cora's glare softened significantly, the hostility draining from her voice. "What exactly did you want to tell me?"
Seeing her manipulation taking hold, Sylvie finally pulled out her phone. She opened the photo she had secretly snapped at the hotel—the one showing Hulda and Justin together—and held it up for Cora to see.
She knew perfectly well that Cora had a massive crush on Justin.
"Look at this. I took it a little while ago by accident. It's the lobby lounge at the Regent Hotel. Hulda is with Justin."
In the photo, Hulda was looking down at a book.
Justin, meanwhile, had his eyes locked firmly on her face, a distinct, warm smile resting on his lips.
Even though there was nothing overtly inappropriate happening, the simple fact that the two of them were alone together in a hotel was shocking.
"They..." With just one glance, Cora's face darkened with pure fury. Her chest heaved violently. "Why are they at a hotel together?!"
