Hulda shook her head. "No need. It's not a good idea."
It didn't take a genius to figure out that the entire Jewell family was currently inside the estate. If Caspian were to go in with her now, it would only spark unnecessary suspicion and wouldn't help the situation at all.
Caspian had fully anticipated that Hulda would turn him down, so he didn't press the issue. "Alright."
Hulda opened the car door to step out, pausing briefly to look back at him. "I owe you one for this. I'll pay you back later."
With that, she shut the door and walked straight toward the familiar iron gates of the estate—the very doors she had passed through countless times over the past seven years.
Inside the car, Caspian watched her retreating figure, a wry, helpless smile touching his lips.
"Dylan, get a team together. Help them look for the kid," he ordered.
"Right away, Boss," Dylan agreed with a nod. He hadn't even needed the instruction; as a highly competent assistant, the moment he learned Ms. Atherton's child was missing, he had already mobilized their local resources to join the search.
Inside the estate's living room, the atmosphere was thick with anxiety.
When the doorbell suddenly rang, every head in the Jewell family snapped up at once.
"Is it Miles? Is he back?!" Valery cried out.
Callie Yates was already sprinting to the door, her hands shaking with anticipation.
But when she pulled it open, Hulda was the one standing on the porch.
Callie blurted out out of sheer habit, "Mrs. Jewell, you're back!"
Hearing Callie call out 'Mrs. Jewell,' Herbert's immediate instinct was that Hulda had finally returned.
He shot up from the sofa, taking a few urgent steps toward the entryway just in time to see Hulda walking in.
"Hulda, you came back!" A look of profound, genuine relief washed over his face, softening the harsh lines of the dark stubble on his jaw.
He didn't even understand it himself, but standing in this house, the sheer sight of Hulda instantly untangled the suffocating knot of tension in his chest.
