She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 105

Timberwood Estates—

Steam filled the bathroom as Vivienne leaned back in the tub, her pale wrists moving lazily through the bubbles, creating soft ripples in the water.

She held a tablet in one hand, displaying the live feed from the security camera outside her front gate.

She watched as the car pulled up and a familiar figure stepped out.

A second later, the doorbell began to ring aggressively.

Judging by the frantic pace of the ringing, he was probably furious.

A wicked smile curled Vivienne's lips. She took her time standing up, water cascading down her sleek skin.

She rinsed off the bubbles, grabbed a silk robe off the rack, and slipped it on.

She opened the front door. A light drizzle had started falling, and the man standing there was covered in a fine mist of rain.

She leaned casually against the doorframe, water dripping from her long hair and soaking into the silk of her robe.

"What brings you to my place in the middle of the night?"

Rhys's brow was locked in a dark scowl, his black eyes fixed on her. He demanded, "Who did you meet with recently?"

Who did she meet? Vivienne pursed her lips in mock thought, then looked at him with a slow, teasing gaze. "Are you checking up on me?"

"I asked you who you met with recently," he repeated, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Seeing him so worked up made her laugh softly. "No one in particular. Didn't you tell me to be a good girl lately?"

Rhys's chest heaved.

Vivienne stepped closer, rising on her tiptoes to take a delicate sniff. "Have you been drinking? Did you come here to pour your heart out after a few drinks?"

She looked up at the night sky, then took a half-step back.

"Are you planning on standing in the rain forever? Don't say I didn't warn you, I have a camera right above the door. If the conversation is going to get sensitive, you'd better come inside."

Rhys glanced up at the blinking red light of the camera mounted under the eaves before stepping inside.

"Did you leak the news about Hector arranging my marriage with the Stratton Family?"

"The Strattons?"

Vivienne walked over to the liquor cabinet, poured two glasses of red wine, and strolled back, offering him one.

"So the family you're marrying into is the Strattons. Which Stratton girl is it?" Her eyes sparkled with mischief.

She guessed, "Don't tell me it's Willow Stratton, the one running the family now. That does sound a bit tough to handle, but I'll do my best."

She leaned close to his ear, her voice a deadly whisper. "Smash them to pieces."

"Vivienne!"

Rhys gritted his teeth, grabbing her jaw with a grip tight enough to crush bone. "You really have a death wish, don't you?"

Her eyes watered from the pain, but she kept smiling, completely fearless.

"I promise you, if I die, your precious little sweetheart will be joining me within half an hour."

"Try me and see."

Rhys knew exactly how crazy she could be.

How sane could someone be after clawing their way out of the lawless underground casinos?

Rhys's jaw tightened, his eyes darkening into an abyss before he abruptly let her go.

"Cool off, will you?"

Seeing her hand him another glass of wine, Rhys smacked it away in a fit of rage and stormed out.

The door slammed behind him with a deafening crash.
