She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 107

"Caden, it's Ms. Jewell."

Helga looked confused. "Didn't she say she hated these kinds of events? Why is she..."

Caden slipped one hand into his pocket, his gaze growing darker as he watched the two figures.

A short distance away, Rhys held out one hand while using the other to carefully shield the roof of the car. The woman inside gently placed her fingers into his palm and stepped out.

As she stood upright, the man leaned down to straighten the train of her dress.

He then offered his arm, and she naturally looped hers through it.

Shera had completely changed up her usual style. She wore a cool-toned, slightly smoky makeup look, her eyeliner extending sharply to accentuate her eyes.

Her face was clean and flawlessly contoured without any unnecessary blush, and her lips were painted a matte berry red.

Her dark hair was elegantly swept up, exposing her slender neck.

The dazzling high-end jewelry she wore was merely an afterthought against her striking presence.

A raven-feathered mermaid gown made her skin look as white as snow, transforming her into a dark swan with folded wings slipping through the night.

Regal, aloof, and utterly breathtaking.

She... had changed somehow.

Helga's eyelashes fluttered as she instinctively looked up at the man beside her.

Caden hadn't taken his eyes off Shera since she stepped out of the car. His gaze was locked onto her, unblinking.

Helga's fingers curled into tight fists. She took a slow, deep breath.

Forcing a smile, she asked, "Should we go say hello?"

Caden didn't answer.

His eyes remained fixed on the smile playing at the corners of Shera's mouth, his expression inscrutable.

The way they moved together was far too natural.

Like they had done this a thousand times before.

His knuckles turned white. He subtly pulled his arm free from Helga's grip and adjusted his cuffs.

"Let's go."

His voice was completely devoid of warmth.

Helga's hand hovered in the air. She watched the man stride ahead, lowering her eyes.

A dark shadow settled in her gaze.

Her throat felt like it was stuffed with cotton, but she called out to his retreating back.

"Caden, wait for me."

To avoid looking desperate, she hadn't asked Rhys to set up an introduction.

They had plenty of time tonight. If she didn't run into her now, she'd definitely see her during the auction.

On the second-floor terrace—

Caden's eyes were glued to the figure down below.

Sitting across from him, Solomon rolled his eyes at the man who was currently acting like a pathetic statue.

He clearly couldn't comprehend this bizarre dynamic.

Caden and Helga. Shera and Rhys.

What kind of messed-up double date was this?

Were they doing some kind of spouse-swap reality show?

Solomon found it completely absurd. "Dude, that's your wife. Why are you letting her be another guy's plus-one?"

Caden maintained his rigid posture, not even shifting his gaze.

"Did I give her permission?"

"No, but... your wife is dressed drop-dead gorgeous and hanging off another guy's arm. Does that really not bother you at all?"
