The doors to the emergency room burst open.
A doctor in blood-stained scrubs stepped out, his expression intensely grim.
"Family of the patient?"
Caden surged forward. "I am."
"The patient is experiencing severe hemorrhaging. We had a massive trauma case in the maternity ward just an hour ago that completely drained our reserves of Type O blood."
Aiken and the ER Director exchanged panicked looks, utterly helpless.
Caden's face turned to stone. "I'm Type O. Take mine."
The realization hit Aiken. "He's right! The CEO is Type O!"
The doctor nodded sharply, barking an order to a nurse behind him. "Prep him. Now."
"Please come with me, sir."
The nurse quickly led Caden down the hall to the blood donation suite.
Aiken stood there, sick with worry. If they were already doing live transfusions, Shera's condition was far more critical than he had feared.
"Doctor, what is her exact status?"
The ER Director echoed the urgency. "Yes, please. This is Mr. Hayes's wife. We need an update."
The doctor pulled down his surgical mask. "The patient has suffered extensive soft tissue trauma. The steering wheel impact shattered her left collarbone and several ribs. The fractured bone pierced her left lung, causing continuous internal bleeding. Her chest cavity was rapidly filling with blood."
"Is it life-threatening?" Aiken asked, taking a hesitant step forward.
"We've stabilized her for now and inserted a chest tube to drain the blood. But the surgery itself carries a massive risk of sudden hemorrhaging. Without an adequate blood reserve, we can't safely proceed if her vitals crash."
The ER Director quickly stepped in to clarify. "We had a horrific maternity emergency earlier that cleared out the blood bank. Prepping a direct donor line is standard protocol for high-risk traumas to ensure her numbers don't flatline on the table."
"Speak."
The voice on the other end was frantic. "Mr. Hayes, what on earth is going on? Gavin Grant is absolutely livid."
"He's saying you lack basic professional respect and contract integrity. He carved out exclusive time for you, and you just walked out. He's actively threatening to pull the entire partnership."
Caden remained silent for a beat, his voice deadly calm. "I understand."
Lawrence was clearly stunned by the ice-cold response. This was the most critical project of the year for Hayes Group. How could he brush it off?
"Mr. Hayes, do you realize the fallout from this? If Grant Technologies signs with one of our rivals because of this stunt, Hayes Group will take a massive financial hit."
"If the industry catches wind of this, they're going to label you and the company as erratic and unreliable."
The blood bag was nearly full. Caden exhaled slowly. "I will handle Mr. Grant personally. Until then, you lock this down. Nobody speaks a word of this to the press."
"Your father already found out! And Mr. Grant has an early morning flight back out of the country tomorrow. If you can intercept him before he boards, maybe we can salvage this."
