Caden's gaze hardened, his voice turning ice-cold. "Who?"
Aiken reported, "It's that woman, Rosalie Kerr."
Rosalie Kerr?
"The one who framed Shera at the design competition?"
Aiken nodded. "The police issued a wanted notice. They found her in an abandoned tannery on the outskirts of town half an hour ago."
He glanced at his boss and added, "She's currently at the Everdale District Police Precinct."
Caden's chest heaved slightly as he pressed his lips together in a tight line. "Let's go. To the precinct."
After leaving instructions at the hospital, the two men headed straight to the police station.
"Mr. Hayes, this is the perpetrator. Her name is Rosalie Kerr, twenty-seven years old."
Inside the holding cell, a woman wrapped in gauze sat in the corner, her head drooping. She had multiple abrasions on her face and hands.
Deputy Chief Frank Larson stood to the side, explaining, "According to her confession and the surveillance footage we pulled, the suspect followed Ms. Jewell from the underground parking garage of Riverwood Gardens at 6:30 PM yesterday, trailing her all the way to Old Town Beef Stew."
"Later, at 9:48 PM, when Ms. Jewell drove away from the restaurant, the suspect detoured from Kingsway Road to Linden Street."
"Once on Linden Street, she began tailgating. Around the midpoint of the road, she deliberately started ramming into Ms. Jewell's vehicle."
"After multiple sideswipes and aggressive swerves at high speeds, Ms. Jewell lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into a roadside billboard."
"The suspect then fled the scene, abandoned her car near the back entrance of Newton Reservoir, and hid in the nearby tannery."
"Our officers apprehended her at 6:35 AM this morning."
From the moment Caden stepped in, his eyes had been locked onto the woman in the cell.
His face was an unreadable mask, but the white-knuckled fists stuffed into his tailored trouser pockets betrayed his simmering rage.
A dark shadow fell over his sharp profile, his heavy brow throwing his lightless eyes into an intimidating gloom.
His voice dropped an octave. "Aiken, go with Deputy Chief Larson to get the full report."
Frank immediately understood the underlying command and waved off the nearby officers.
With a heavy clack, the solid iron door shut tight.
The cramped space plunged into a dead silence, the air growing so thick it was suffocating.
A murderous aura began to seep from his very pores.
"When you framed her during the competition, I told you to drop out and get the hell out of Aurelia. Did you think I was joking?"
He stepped closer, an overwhelming pressure crashing down on her. "It seems you didn't learn a single thing from last time."
Caden paused, as if casually recalling a memory. "I wonder how that son of yours is doing—the one you dumped at your distant relative's house?"
Rosalie's head snapped up, her bloodshot eyes wide beneath the gauze. "How... how do you know about that?"
Caden wasn't usually the type to use someone's Achilles' heel to extort them, but she had dared to lay a hand on Shera.
So why should he play fair?
"Tell me, if those relatives found out you're in for attempted murder, do you think they'd keep raising your five-year-old?"
He chuckled darkly. "If Mrs. Coleman found out her husband, the VP of Apex Investments, had an illegitimate love child, do you think she'd go looking for the boy?"
"Would she bring him home to raise, or would she find a more permanent way to deal with him?"
VP Coleman of Apex Investments was Rosalie's former sugar daddy. He had kept her during college, showering her with resources until his wife found out, forcing him to cut all ties.
