The child had been kept a complete secret; even his biological father didn't know he existed.
Mrs. Coleman was notoriously unforgiving. If she learned about a love child who could potentially threaten her own son's inheritance, the consequences would be catastrophic.
At the mere mention of her son, Rosalie panicked completely. She scrambled to her knees, her voice trembling violently.
"Mr. Hayes, please, I beg of you. Don't touch him."
Even such a despicable woman valued her own child this much.
Caden let out a cold snort, staring down at her with absolute disdain. "So, someone put you up to this?"
Rosalie was about to blurt it out, but she hesitated at the last second.
Her eyes darted around frantically, clearly weighing the risks.
Seeing her hesitation, Caden threw fuel on the fire. "I'll make you a deal. If you give me useful information and name the mastermind, I'll step in and settle on Shera's behalf."
"I'll arrange for you to leave the country and give you a sum large enough to guarantee you and your son a comfortable life."
Rosalie's brow twitched. She was clearly tempted, but then reality set in.
"Why... why should I trust you?"
The man's eyes flashed with piercing sharpness. "Do you think you have a choice? Or do you honestly believe the person behind you can protect you from me?"
"Ms. Kerr, my patience is running thin. If you don't make up your mind right now, I'll let the legal system crush you."
A fierce internal battle waged inside Rosalie as she looked up at Caden.
"Three!"
The man began his countdown. Panic seized her, her pupils quivering.
"Two!"
She was already in his clutches. She was damned if she did, damned if she didn't.
No matter what, she had to protect her son.
"One!"
"I'll tell you! I'll tell you..."
Rosalie blurted out in a rush, swallowing hard. "It was Helga. Helga Sutton put me up to it."
A dark gleam flashed in Caden's eyes. He tipped his chin, signaling her to continue.
"Helga arranged the competition incident too. She told me Shera was standing in my way, said she would set everything up and all I had to do was submit an anonymous tip. I just didn't expect Shera to blow the whole thing out of proportion."
An hour and a half later, Aiken walked in.
"She spilled everything she could. Aside from the competition and the crash, she dropped quite a bit on the Sutton family."
Aiken lowered his voice. "Including the guy from last time, Lucius."
Caden stood up, slipping his hands into his pockets. "Back up all the files; they'll be very useful later. Keep a tight lid on this for now."
"Yes, sir."
He hesitated before asking, "And what about Rosalie? Are you really going to send her abroad?"
Caden's voice was frigid as he headed for the door. "Let the legal process run its course. Do whatever it takes to make sure she rots in Dyer's Gate Women's Prison."
Aiken froze in shock.
Dyer's Gate Women's Prison?
That was the most terrifying hellhole in the region.
Once you went in, living was a fate far worse than death.
Trying to strike an honorable bargain with a ruthless businessman was a surefire way to meet a miserable end.
