She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 135

Rhys casually adjusted his glasses. "May I see the interrogation footage?"

Frank hesitated for a split second, weighing the situation. Considering they were both on the victim's side, and given the staggering power of the Sinclair family, he quickly made a decision.

"Of course, sir. Give me just a moment, I'll pull it up for you."

The video began playing on the computer screen. Through the headphones, a woman's trembling, terrified voice filled Rhys's ears.

Rhys kept his eyes closed as he listened, but his hands, hidden beneath the desk, curled into iron-tight fists.

Suddenly, the audio hitched. Rhys's eyes snapped open, a lethal sharpness flashing across his gaze as he stared at the screen.

He tilted his head, a faint, chilling smile forming on his lips. "Deputy Chief Larson... has this footage been edited?"

A microscopic flicker of guilt darted across Frank's eyes before he plastered on an apologetic smile.

"You must be joking, Mr. Jewell. This is official precinct evidence. No one would dare tamper with it."

Frank tried to hold his gaze, but the eerie, half-smile on Rhys's face sent cold shivers racing down his spine.

"Please, don't look at me like that, I swear I'm telling the truth."

"Frank."

The tone wasn't particularly loud, but the sheer, crushing authority behind it was suffocating.

"Are you deliberately forcing my hand so I have to pay a visit to Central Police Command?"

Frank rubbed his sweaty palms together, looking entirely desperate. "Mr. Jewell, please, don't put me in this position. I genuinely have no idea."

Rhys slowly rotated the ring on his finger, then calmly rose to his feet.

"Alright then. If that's your final answer, I won't waste any more of your time."

Seeing Rhys turn to leave, Frank practically lunged forward to grab him.

Caden Hayes on one side. Rhys Jewell on the other.

He couldn't afford to offend either of them.

Either man could strip him of his badge with the snap of a finger.

Gritting his teeth, he caved. "Fine... there is a section of the audio that was cut. If you want to see it, I'll show it to you."

He had to protect his own career; anything else was secondary.

A few minutes later, Frank brought in a secure flash drive, plugged it in, and hit play.

Just as Rhys expected, a third name surfaced in the unedited confession.
