Caden turned his head, glancing at the room across the hall, Solomon's harsh words from the previous night echoing in his mind.
That profound sense of helplessness crept back in.
His expression darkened as he lay back down. "Go shut the door. Don't let Shera know I'm here."
Aiken glanced out into the hallway, then back at Caden, visibly confused.
Still, he did as he was told and pulled the door shut.
Was his boss... playing hard to get?
But with him going in and out, and Mr. Spencer literally in the next room, it would be pretty impossible for her not to notice, right?
Seeing the door closed without a crack to spare, Caden rolled over with a thunderous expression and shut his eyes.
"Oh, right, Mr. Hayes, the doctor said you can't eat anything yet, but you can have some warm water."
Silence from the bed.
"I left the water on your nightstand."
Still silence.
He tentatively offered, "Then I'll just step out for now. Call me if you need anything?"
Seeing that the man in bed remained unresponsive, Aiken knew he was in a foul mood and quietly slipped out.
The moment he stepped into the hall, he bumped right into Solomon.
Solomon had already changed into fresh clothes. He jerked his chin toward the door.
Aiken answered, "He's awake, but giving everyone the silent treatment."
Solomon let out a heavy breath and waved him off.
"Wait."
Remembering something, Solomon warned Aiken, "Make sure the Sutton family doesn't find out about this. Especially Helga."
He had zero interest in having that two-faced lotus flower crashing the party at a critical moment like this.
Aiken's eyes shifted in realization, and he nodded in agreement.
"Then I'll leave you here, Mr. Spencer. I need to head to the office."
"Yeah."
When Solomon walked in, Caden was lying with his back to the door.
"Well, well, look who's lying here giving the silent treatment."
