She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 146

A solid smack landed on the back of his head. Caden signaled toward the opposite door with his eyes.

Solomon instantly understood. Tiptoeing, he sneaked over to the room across the hall and pressed his ear flat against the door.

Seeing Pearce walk in for rounds, Shera greeted him with a bright smile.

Pearce set the bag he was carrying on the nightstand. "My mother was worried about you, so she got up early to make some winter melon soup and asked me to bring it over. It's great for clearing out fluids. You should try some."

Shera looked a bit embarrassed. "I've really troubled her, and having you personally deliver it is too much."

Pearce smiled softly. "It's no trouble at all."

He performed a routine checkup, noting that there was no bloody discharge in the drainage bottle and her vitals were stable, which put his mind at ease.

He gently explained her condition while jotting notes on her chart.

"You're recovering very well. The tear in your lung has basically sealed, and the drainage is steadily decreasing. We'll observe for two more days, and if things stay stable, we can evaluate for tube removal."

He double-checked her IV lines and adjusted the height of the drip.

Shera nodded. "Thank you, Dr. Pembroke."

Pearce smiled. "There's no need to be so formal, Ms. Jewell."

He pulled a balloon from his pocket and handed it to her.

"Now that the air leak is under control, you can start doing lung expansion exercises by blowing up a balloon."

Shera took the pink balloon from him.

Pearce instructed, "Start with small, slow breaths. Gently blow three to five times a day, and make sure not to hold your breath."

"Just do a few sets a day."

She nodded, put the balloon to her lips, blew lightly, and let the air out.

"Like this?"

Pearce chuckled at her puffed-up cheeks and gave her a thumbs-up.

"Exactly like that. You're a fast learner, Ms. Jewell."

He spoke as if he were praising a child.

Glancing at the time, he noticed it was already past eight.

Setting his chart aside, he popped open the insulated thermos.

"My mother specifically said you need to drink this while it's hot."

Pearce expertly poured the soup into a bowl, placed a spoon inside, and slowly stirred it.
