She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 160

"What's wrong, Shera? Are you about to start shedding tears on me?"

Shera buried her face into Felipa's shoulder. Breathing in her comforting scent, she couldn't even name the rush of emotions hitting her.

Was it surprise? Joy? Or something else entirely?

"I didn't expect you to be this shocked. If I'd known, I would have made it official much sooner."

Felipa shot her son a pointed, exasperated look. "Can't you see she's crying? Hand me a tissue!"

Pearce let out a soft laugh and pulled a few tissues from the box, handing them to Shera. "You can't cry too much, or we'll have to keep you here for a few more days."

Shera couldn't help but laugh through her tears.

She sat back and looked down at the freshly poured bowl of chicken broth, the wave of emotion she'd just managed to push down swelling up all over again.

Felipa was a world-renowned master. Her hands were meant for priceless embroidery needles, yet she was constantly going out of her way to bring her homemade meals.

What had she ever done to deserve such incredible kindness?

"Drink up, now. You need to get better fast so we can officially start your lessons."

Shera nodded, picking up her spoon and bringing the broth to her lips. It was smooth, incredibly flavorful, and perfectly balanced.

Felipa leaned her elbows on the table, looking at her with eager anticipation. "How is it?"

Shera beamed. "It's delicious."

"Oh, good. I was so worried you wouldn't like it."

Felipa gently reached out, tucking a stray strand of hair behind Shera's ear.

"Since you like it so much, I'll make it for you again next time."

As Shera slowly sipped her soup, she kept stealing glances at the woman sitting across from her.

She felt... a genuine sense of family radiating from Felipa.

It was a maternal love she hadn't felt in a lifetime.

Her own mother had passed away when she was extremely young. Without any photographs left behind, the memory of her face had slowly blurred over the years.

If she were still alive, she probably would have been just like Felipa. A similar build, a similar warm personality.

And... the exact same look in her eyes.

She probably would have asked if the food was good, wiped away her tears, and told her, "Don't be afraid. Mom is right here."
