He couldn't help but find it amusing. “Then tell me, what anger do I have to take out on you?”
She lowered her head, her voice laced with grievance. “I don't know.”
Caden grabbed the liquor bottle, filled her glass to the brim again, and handed it to her.
“Finish this glass, and I'll tell you why.”
The glass hung in the air. She was caught between taking it and refusing it.
“Caden, I...”
Her nose stung, and tears instantly streamed down her face.
Solomon finally noticed what was happening and hurried over with a wide grin.
Throwing an arm over Caden's shoulder, he asked, “What's going on here? I take my eyes off you for one second and you've got her crying?”
Tessa looked at him like he was a savior. “Solomon, I really can't drink any more.”
Solomon looked at the glass, filled to the absolute brim, and then at the bottle next to it, sucking in a sharp breath.
“This stuff is way too strong. If you can't handle it, just stop drinking.”
He reached out to take the glass away, but Caden slammed a hand down over his.
He had a smile on his face, but it inexplicably sent a chill down everyone's spine.
“She can handle it. Ms. Tyson said so herself—her tolerance is perfectly fine.”
Solomon looked at Caden, utterly bewildered.
He wasn't the type to bully people for no reason, especially not a woman.
But seeing him act like this meant Tessa had definitely crossed a line.
And crossed it severely.
“Hiss.”
Solomon eventually sat back down and turned to Tessa.
“Since Caden already handed you the glass, you better just drink it.”
Seeing that even Solomon wasn't going to help her, Tessa's heart turned to ash, and her tears fell even faster.
But she also clearly understood the situation. If she didn't drink this glass tonight, she probably wasn't walking out that door.
The people around them were all watching like it was a show, and not a single person dared step forward to plead on her behalf.
It was also possible that Tessa was just so awful to people on a regular basis that no one was willing to stick their neck out for her.
