First her father, now her.
"We..." She deliberately swallowed the lump in her throat, forcing her voice to sound normal.
"We never mattered to him at all, did we?"
"So, Rosalie's fatal crash wasn't an accident either?"
Rhys nodded. "He was probably afraid I would get involved and dig the truth out of Rosalie, so he silenced her permanently."
"As for what happened to her, if he was the one behind it, he's definitely covered his tracks. We won't find a single shred of evidence, no matter how hard we look."
Shera let out a bitter laugh. "He's willing to kill just to keep Helga safe."
Caden...
He was far more vicious than she had ever imagined.
Today he could eliminate Rosalie for Helga's sake.
What about tomorrow? Would it be her turn tomorrow?
She couldn't understand. If Helga was so incredibly important to him, why did he marry her in the first place?
Was it because being 'Mrs. Hayes' came with too much baggage?
No, if Helga had been Mrs. Hayes, the family wouldn't have made things difficult for her.
And Caden wouldn't have turned a blind eye to any of it.
It was all a joke.
Rhys frowned as he watched her expression. He stepped forward and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"Shera, you still have me. I'll make sure he pays for everything he's done to you."
Shera looked up at Rhys, feeling a sudden wave of uncertainty.
Caden was like this... what about Rhys? What kind of man was he really?
"What about you? Will you lie to me?"
Rhys pulled her into a tight embrace, his voice soothing. "Shera, I will never do anything to hurt you. I swear."
She nodded slightly, her mind still completely blank.
"The mandatory waiting period ends tomorrow."
"Yeah."
Shera gently pushed back to create some distance between them. "Promise me, no matter what, you'll help me finalize this divorce."
She wanted to sever all ties with Caden for good.
