He couldn't afford to worry about anything else right now, not even the risk of tipping his hand.
The most pressing issue was to clarify everything about Shera's father to her, to erase any misunderstandings she held against him.
Massaging his throbbing temples, he ordered, "Take me to Solomon's."
"Yes, sir."
The car made a U-turn and sped toward the other side of the city.
As soon as Caden walked through the door, he saw a man slumped in the corner of the room.
Lucius.
Caden waved a hand at one of the security details standing by. "Wake him up."
Solomon stepped forward. "I grabbed this guy out of a mahjong parlor. Maybe I overdid it with the sedative, because he's still out cold."
The guard splashed a glass of ice water onto Lucius's face and slapped his cheeks a few times until the man let out a low groan and groggily opened his eyes.
The drugs were still in his system. He propped himself up, rubbing his pounding temples, and scanned the room full of men.
He didn't look the least bit panicked. Instead, a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth, his tone dripping with defiance.
"Mr. Hayes. I knew this wouldn't stay buried forever, I just didn't expect you to move this fast."
Caden stared down at him, his voice dangerously low. "Three years ago, when Shera's father was hospitalized, Helga Sutton paid you to bribe Jared Sanford in the records department and bury the emergency surgery notice. Is that correct?"
Lucius scoffed, meeting his gaze without flinching. "Yeah, I did it. I've got nothing to hide."
Aiken tossed a stack of photocopies at his feet, the papers scattering across the floor.
"She's been wiring you money every month since she was studying in Germany. You've been her personal fixer for years, and it never stopped when she moved back."
Lucius glanced down at the bank statements on the floor, his attitude entirely nonchalant.
"The proof is right there. No point in denying it."
