She’s Done. He’s Breaking novel Chapter 29

**Chapter 29**

In the world of the Somertons, reputation was not merely a matter of pride; it was the very fabric that held their esteemed family together. Their name carried weight, and any blemish could unravel the threads of their legacy.

“I know what I’m doing,” Tristan declared, his tone tinged with impatience, as if the very thought of questioning his judgment was an affront.

Yelena let out a weary sigh, her heart heavy with the weight of familial tension. “So, I’m not even allowed to talk to you about this?” she asked, her voice betraying a mix of frustration and concern.

Tristan had always been a force of nature, fiercely independent and remarkably self-sufficient, even in his childhood. From an early age, he outshone his peers with a brilliance that was both admirable and isolating. His parents, David and Eloise, had always held a deep affection for him, proud of his exceptional intellect and capabilities.

Yet, beneath that shining exterior lay a stark absence of empathy. His intellect, though impressive, often overshadowed the warmth of human connection. Yelena, despite being his mother, found it challenging to bridge the emotional gap that seemed to widen with each passing year.

As Tristan stepped through the door of their home, his phone rang, the screen lighting up with Eloise’s name. “I heard from Lily that Stella moved back with her parents?” she inquired, her voice laced with concern.

Tristan’s mind raced back to the earlier conversation he had overheard. Lily had wasted no time in launching into a tirade of grievances about Stella, presuming that Eloise would echo her sentiments, just as Tristan had.

However, to Lily’s utter shock, Eloise had reprimanded her instead. The color drained from Lily’s face, leaving her speechless, a testament to the unexpected turn of the conversation.

Tristan rubbed his brow in exasperation, his patience wearing thin. “She’s an adult. She knows what she’s doing. If she wants to stay with her family, that’s her choice,” he asserted, his voice firm and unwavering.

It was evident to him that Stella was acutely aware of her position in his life. She had remained composed and unflustered when he had broached the topic of divorce, a clear indication that she understood the reality of their relationship. She wasn’t one to engage in futile attempts to salvage something that had long since begun to fray at the edges.

In the past, during her time as his assistant, Stella had skillfully masked her feelings, and Tristan had admired her professionalism. He would have applauded her dedication had she continued to keep her emotions at bay, for there was no denying her exceptional competence in her role.

Yet, she had crossed a line that should have remained untouched.

The unexpected arrival of a baby and his hasty marriage to Stella were the only two events that had spiraled beyond his control in the two decades of his life. The very thought of these developments gnawed at him, a bitter pill he simply could not swallow.

Eloise, ever the voice of reason, attempted to appeal to his better nature. “She’s pregnant now—”

But Tristan, fueled by frustration, interrupted her, his voice rising. “I get it, Grandma! I’m exhausted, so I’m hanging up now.” With that, he cut the call abruptly, leaving Eloise to ponder her son’s stubbornness in silence.
