Sleeping in Her Bed and Thinking of Another novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Sweetheart?

Everyone froze.

In the end, Scarlett was the first to recover. She blurted out, “Lindsay, are your adoptive parents actually the Hernans?”

Francesca finally looked up and said coldly, “Adoptive parents? To us, Lindsay is like our biological daughter!”

This confirmed what Scarlett had said. Everyone was dumbstruck.

Brayden’s friends, who were always mocking Lindsay, all turned white with fear. That country bumpkin, Lindsay, was actually the Hernan heiress!

When they thought about how rude they had once been, they were terrified and began to apologize profusely.

“Um… Lindsay, w-we were always just joking around with you! Don’t take it to heart!”

“Yes, yes! Please don’t hold it against us. Don’t stoop to our level!”

Lindsay frowned slightly. She was about to say that she no longer cared when Francesca said coldly, “You must pay the price for your mistakes. Don’t you know that?”

Everyone was silent.

Francesca continued icily, “To those of you who insulted Lindsay in the past, visit us and apologize. Remember to bring your parents along. As for you…”

Francesca smiled coldly as she looked at Laurence, Azalea, and Brayden.

“Lindsay is soft-hearted and only canceled your partnerships, but I’m much more ruthless than she is. I’m going to bankrupt all of you!”

Francesca was a woman of her word. She moved decisively and cut off the Harts and the Yorks’ supply chains.

The Yorks were on the brink of bankruptcy.

Every single day, Laurence and Azalea would go to the hotel entrance to wait for Lindsay. They hoped to use their relationship with her to make her relent.

However, the Hernans made sure that they didn’t even have a chance to meet Lindsay.

Brayden was harder to deal with. He managed to stabilize his company, though it took a lot of

his effort.

Chapter 18

He was exhausted from work.

One day, he walked out of his office to see Scarlet waiting for him.

“Brayden!” Scarlett burst into tears as soon as she saw him.

“Mom and Dad have ignored me for days. I really don’t know what to do, so I had to come and find you.”

It was clear that Laurence and Azalea were so anxious that they no longer had any time to bother with Scarlett.

Brayden asked wearily, “Why did you come to see me?”

“I want you to promise me something.”

Scarlett looked worriedly at him. “You’re not going to do what my parents did, are you? Are you going to only want Lindsay and not me now that you know that her adopted parents are the Hernans? When are you going to divorce Lindsay?”

Scarlett was genuinely afraid.

She had thought that she’d win if she managed to chase Lindsay away. She just hadn’t expected Lindsay’s adoptive parents to be so influential.

Now, the Yorks no longer wanted anything to do with her. If Brayden abandoned her, too, it would be disastrous!

Brayden’s expression darkened at the mention of divorce. “Lindsay and I aren’t officially divorced yet. Don’t say things like that.”

He turned to leave, but Scarlett burst into loud wails. “You’re just like Mom and Dad! You’re just after the Hernans, who are Lindsay’s allies!

“How could you do this to me? Have you forgotten what you promised me before you married Lindsay? Have you forgotten that I’ve been waiting for you for all these years? Have you forgotten who rescued you from the bottom of a cliff at the hunting preserve?”

There was a flash of guilt in Brayden’s eyes when he heard Scarlett’s desperate scream. However, he felt a tinge of surprise at her last sentence.

He looked up at her. “What did you say? Did you say that you were the one who rescued me from the bottom of a cliff at the hunting preserve?”

Scarlett’s eyes were red-rimmed as she replied, “Yes. Is there a problem?”

Brayden narrowed his eyes. “I clearly remember falling unconscious in a cave.”
