Chapter 19

Scarlett abruptly stopped crying.
When Brayden had been trapped at the hunting preserve, it was Lindsay who had rushed in
despite the danger and rescued him on her own.
However, Scarlett had taken all the credit while Lindsay was unconscious.
Scarlett didn’t actually know about what happened in the woods, but the doctor had said that Brayden’s injuries indicated a fall.
Therefore, Scarlett assumed that Lindsay had rescued Brayden from the bottom of a cliff.
“I-”
She panicked and tried to make up for her lie, but Brayden ran a business empire. He wasn’t that easy to fool.
He narrowed his eyes and asked coldly, “Did you come across any wild animals in the woods that day?”
Scarlett was now too afraid to look at him. She said shiftily, “N-No.”
The final vestige of warmth faded from Brayden’s eyes.
Although he had been unconscious at the time, he remembered hearing wolves howling along with the sound of gunshots.
Brayden had been so touched and filled with remorse at the thought of Scarlett rescuing him. Therefore, he had never thought about it in detail.
Now that he looked back on it, he realized that Scarlett could never have rescued him from the wolves with her level of skill in riding and hunting.
If it hadn’t been Scarlett, who could it have been?
An answer popped up in his mind, and Brayden grabbed Scarlett’s chin.
“Scarlett,” he said coldly.
All the usual warmth in his voice was gone, and his tone was as cold as ice. “You know that I hate it when people lie to me. I’m going to give you one last chance. Who rescued me from the woods that day?”
Scarlett had never seen Brayden act like this. She couldn’t endure the immense pressure she felt and burst into tears. “It was Lindsay! She rescued you from the woods!”
Brayden felt as if all the strength had been drained from him. He stumbled backward.
Darren heard their conversation and tactfully contacted the hunting preserve staff at once.

After a few phone calls, he found out the truth.
He said in a low voice, “Mr. Hart, I’ve looked into it. It was Mrs. Hart who saved you at the hunting preserve that day. Also, she ran into a pack of wolves after she found you. She was
bitten several times.”
Brayden jolted in shock. Lindsay had been bitten by wolves?
It was no wonder she’d looked so pale after returning from the hunting preserve.
However, she hadn’t said anything at all. Was it really because it didn’t hurt?
It couldn’t be. It was because she knew that no matter how much pain she was in or how much she cried, she wouldn’t receive any concern from Laurence, Azalea, or Brayden.
At that thought, Brayden felt as if someone had gripped his heart tightly. He turned to leave without hesitation.
Scarlett snapped out of it and screamed, “Where are you going, Brayden?
“Yes, I lied to you about this, but so what? Am I not the one you love?
“I’m telling you, if you go and see Lindsay today, we’ll never see each other again!”
Brayden stopped in his tracks.
Scarlett’s eyes lit up. She thought that he was wavering.
