Chapter 27
Liana thought of the fact that she really hadn’t seen her best friend in three years and suddenly felt a surge of longing.
She laughed and said firmly, “What I mean is tha I’m not letting Logan and Olivia off this time. I’m going to settle this grudge myself.”
On the other end of the line, Maxine was clearly stunned for a second before letting out an exaggerated shriek. “Liana, did you switch personalities? You’re finally willing to give up on that jerk, Logan?”
The old Liana had been hopelessly devoted to Logan. No matter how much Maxine scolded and lectured her, Liana had been like someone under spell. It was as if Liana was willing to die for Logan. And now she was suddenly being this decisive?
Was something wrong with the world?
“Yes,” Liana said. She picked up her coffee and took a sip, her voice laced with cold mockery.” Because I finally see things clearly. There’s nothing left worth holding onto.”
Despite Liana’s calm voice, Maxine could still detect a faint hint of sadness.
Her playful tone was gone as she said seriously, “Lia, don’t overthink it. Walking away from him is the best thing that could ever happen to you.”
“I know.” Liana nodded.
Not wanting to dwell on Logan for even a second longer, Maxine changed the subject. “So what’s your situation now? Are you still working as an underpaid, overworked lawyer at Logan’s company?”
Liana said, “I quit ages ago. I’m planning on setting up my own practice.”
“Are you for real?” Maxine’s suddenly got much louder.
She said, “I wholeheartedly approve of this. You should have done this years ago! Wait for me. I’ll come work for you once I’m back home! Ms. Wade, you’d better hire someone as excellent as I am!”
Liana was deeply amused by her and said in exasperation, “Ms. Thompson, you’re practically a legend in the overseas legal world now. If you came to my little firm that doesn’t even exist yet, I would be the one holding you back.”

The two of them joked and chatted for a while, until Maxine reluctantly wrapped things up. Take good care of yourself over there. Once I’m back, we’ll destroy that cheating pair together!

“Okay,” Liana replied with a smile.
After hanging up, Liana felt like the cloud of gloom that had been looming over her for days was finally lifted. For the first time in a long while, she felt calm and resolved.
She slowly finished her breakfast, then headed upstairs to her study.
She turned on her computer and pulled up the confidential project documents Silas had given her yesterday.
After all, she had accepted his one-million-dollar payment. Even if Silas was Logan’s uncle, business was still business. Since he had been so generous, she intended to deliver flawless work.
Liana quickly slipped into work mode.
She reviewed every document in detail, then focused completely on drafting the final contract.
The fine print of cooperation terms, contingency plans for risk mitigation, clearly defined breach-of-contract liabilities…
She scrutinized every word and punctuation mark with precision, ensuring the contract was airtight with no loopholes.
Time slipped away as she crisply typed away on the keyboard.
By a little past four in the afternoon, she finally typed the last word and let out a long sigh of relief.
She reread the contract from start to finish three times. After confirming there were no issues, she sent the digital version of the finalized contract to Silas.
“Mr. Young, the final contract is ready. Please take a look.”
Meanwhile, in a refined private room at an elegant cafe in the city center, Silas was sitting in a wooden chair.
In front of him was his childhood partner -in-crime, the heir of the Fletcher family, Leland Fletcher.
