Chapter 102 You Have All Been Fooled
Chapter 102 You Have All Been Fooled
November nodded.
It was true. Over the years, with every atrocity the rebels committed, a lot of innocent lives were lost because of them. That’s exactly why everyone despised the rebels.
Weston exploded. “Enough! Those people aren’t the rebels at all! You’ve all been fooled!”
Layla hadn’t seen Weston this furious in a long time.
The last time he’d been this mad was when he found out the Sullivan family had thrown her out.
But with Weston’s reminder, Layla recalled the incident and realized something didn’t add up.
Back then, the rebels’ movements were unnaturally synchronized, like a squad of robots all following a single directive.
She looked at November. “Why don’t we go back to Xyphora and question those captured rebels again?”
“Alright,” November replied.
November never said no to Layla, so that was that.
After all, Annie and Randall are on Xyphora right now, too.
Even though they’d decided to head to Xyphora, they’d have to wait until this mess was over first.
With the rumbling in the background, Layla glanced at Weston, thinking he was acting kind of weird today. Suddenly, she remembered that incident in Understreet from last time.
If she remembered correctly, the rebels had slipped into Understreet back then.
Layla asked offhandedly, “Hey, Weston, who was that girl chasing you in Understreet last time?”
“Oh, her? She’s nobody important. But why are you calling her girl?” Weston replied.
“She looks like she is in her thirties, way younger than you. Why can’t I call her girl?” Layla teased.
Weston couldn’t help but grimace, grumbling, “She’s just some nutcase. Just ignore her. By the way, when you guys go to Xyphora, count me in.”
He wanted to see for himself who those fake rebels really were.

After another half hour, the bombing finally stopped, but no one could tell who had actually won.
Either way, it was the regular folks who ended up getting screwed over.
Layla and November went out first to make sure it was safe. Only then did they let Celia and the kids come out.
One of the orphanage’s old storage sheds, where they kept all their junk, had been blown to pieces. Luckily, the rest of the place was mostly fine since the buildings were all pretty short.
But the Grant family’s brand-new factories were completely leveled. All the work they’d put in over the past month was now all for nothing.
Even from far away, they could hear the wailing coming from the Grant family’s side.
Liam was twelve, one of the oldest kids at the orphanage. He jumped up and said, “I’ll go see what’s going on!”
Celia shouted after him, “Be careful, Liam!”
Layla comforted her, “The ships have all left, so it should be safe. And honestly, we can’t keep hiding them behind us forever.”
Layla had always protected the orphanage, but she didn’t want her little brothers and sisters growing up clueless about the real world.
If people coddle them too much, they’ll end up soft and gullible, easy prey for anyone looking to take advantage.
Before long, Liam came running back. He’d tripped and gotten dust all over his pants, but he didn’t even care. Eyes wide, he blurted out, “Mr. Grant got killed!
“While the battle was raging above, he ran into the warehouse trying to rescue some piece of equipment, and a machine toppled over and crushed him.”
Everyone went quiet.
Talk about bad luck for that greedy guy.

That’s the price of greed. As the saying goes, men die for wealth just as birds die for food.
After the bombing, life on this planet just got a whole lot tougher for everyone. Layla made a snap decision. She’d bring Celia and the rest of the crew with her to Xyphora.
After that, they’d all head back to Alpha Prime together.
They couldn’t open an orphanage on Alpha Prime just yet, but at least they could get Celia and the eighteen kids settled in somewhere.
As for younger kids’ schooling, they’d just have to figure it out step by step.
November immediately agreed to sort out the residency permits for Celia and the kids on the spot.
But Layla knew they needed to make some money, and fast.
So once they were all on the ship, she holed up in her room and told everyone not to bother her.
Layla logged onto the mech suit forum and dropped ten S-tier mech suit blueprints and twenty A-tier ones.
The whole forum went wild.
[Damn! What’s up with Hades? Is he selling out to get married or what?]
[Man, how much cash does Hades need? If all these blueprints get auctioned off, he could buy ten planets easily!]
[Hades, marry me! Just give me one S-tier blueprint, and I’m yours!]

Meanwhile, in another cabin on the same ship, Atlas ripped off his mask, picked up his glass of red wine on the rocks, and knocked it back in one shot.
His optical computer pinged. Atlas answered, and Roger’s hologram popped up.
Roger said, “Your Highness, why are you heading back to Xyphora all of a sudden? I’ve got things under control here. “Most of the rebels have been wiped out. Out of the 128 we captured, there were three squad commanders and one mid- level commander. They all came clean about what they did.”
Atlas looked up. “They confessed?”
Roger hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah, they admitted the whole thing was intentional, a straight-up terrorist attack, basically a direct challenge to Alpha Prime.
“I tried to get them to tell me where the next hit would be, but they kept saying they didn’t know. Apparently, that’s someone else’s department.
“Got it. So, Your Highness, you’re thinking of using this as a way in, to stop the next attack before it kicks off?”
Atlas remembered what Weston had said and how Layla had also mentioned something strange about those rebels.
Suddenly, he asked, “Roger, do you really think they’re the rebels?”
Roger was stunned. After a long pause, he said cautiously, “Your Highness, what do you mean? Wasn’t ambushing civilian starships exactly what the rebels do? They’re ruthless.
“They’ve wiped out the population of entire planets before. Oh, and not long ago, the rebels even attacked Her Majesty’s home planet, Meridia. Luckily, our forces got there in time and forced them to retreat.”
Atlas didn’t have any solid proof yet. Roger looked totally lost, but Atlas just shrugged it off and said, “Don’t bring them back to Alpha Prime for now. Hold off until I get there myself.”
“Yes, Your Highness!” Roger had no clue why Atlas was suddenly changing plans, but when it came to Atlas, he never hesitated to follow orders.
After ending the call, Atlas recalled how Layla’s mech suit got banged up fighting those so-called rebels.
Layla might be a mech engineer, but Atlas couldn’t help wanting to get her an upgrade anyway.
Remembering he’d added Hades, the master mech engineer, as a friend, Atlas logged into the mech suit forum with his side
account.
He was just about to drop Hades a message, asking when that new mech suit would be ready.
But to his surprise, Hades was actually online.
