Chapter 125 Got A Love Rival
Chapter 125 Got A Love Rival
Weston: [Of course! He’s the creator of Ares and the very first mech engineer to build an Ultra-S Tier mech suit. Seriously, who doesn’t know about him?]
Layla: [He might be my grandfather, or maybe my maternal grandfather, or even my great-grandfather?]
Weston: [Layla, just wait for me. I swear I’ll show up in front of you within three days!]
Layla didn’t think Weston could make it to Alpha Prime in three days.
He’d just sent her the coordinates and said he’d be there in seven days. Even at light speed, that’s almost impossible.
But Weston had some seriously wild tricks up his sleeve, so Layla thought maybe he would make it.
She just sent him a quick message telling him to have a safe trip, then got ready and headed out for the opening ceremony. Layla usually couldn’t care less about opening ceremonies.
But since she’d been an outstanding student last semester, her teacher asked her to go up on stage and give a speech. By the time Layla got to the auditorium, Annie was already there, saving her a seat and waving her over.
As soon as Layla sat down, Annie leaned in, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Layla, did you notice it? There are so many adorable boys among the freshmen this year! Look at that one over there.
“Rumor has it he’s a cheetah shifter, only eighteen, and seriously, isn’t he just insanely handsome? Plus, he’s SSS Tier!”
Layla saw the guy frown at them.
She reminded Annie helplessly, “Annie, did you forget? SSS Tier shifters have super-sharp hearing. He probably heard every word you just said.”
“Who cares if he heard? I was totally complimenting him.”
“Well, Annie, do I need to remind you? Aren’t you already taken…” Layla said, but before she could finish, the light in front of her suddenly dimmed.
She looked up and saw the freshman Annie had just been raving about, his gaze razor-sharp and locked right on her.
Layla couldn’t help but shiver.
‘What the heck? Annie was the one gossiping about him, so why is this guy staring at me like I’m the culprit?’ Layla thought.
Annie caught on fast and jumped in. “Hey, newbie, I was the one talking about you just now. My friend had nothing to do with it. Sorry if that bothered you.”
She just wanted to smooth things over. No way was she letting her bestie get dragged into drama.
But the guy didn’t even glance at Annie. His eyes stayed locked on Layla as he asked, “What’s your name?”
He had a strong, almost fierce look, and his eyes were piercing, typical cheetah shifter vibes. They were natural hunters, after all.
He might’ve been three years younger than Layla, but his presence was just as strong.
Annie had totally lost interest in checking out the cute guys. But now she was all riled up, standing protectively in front of Layla.
The guy was persistent. He asked again, “What’s your name?”
Layla could feel his strong presence, but there was no hostility in his eyes.
She replied, “Layla.”
As soon as he heard her name, his eyes lit up. He blurted out, “Can I get your contact info?”
“Yeah, sure,” Layla replied.
Once they’d exchanged optical computer contact info, the guy headed back to his friends, and the opening ceremony was starting up.
Annie stared at Layla, looking like a startled cat. “What just happened? Why did he suddenly change his attitude and ask for your contact?”
“He didn’t mean any harm. Maybe he just wanted to get to know me or something.” Layla said.
“Yeah, I don’t think he meant anything by it. Bu Successfully unlocked! na freak out when he hears about this?” Annie
said, glancing around with a mischievous grin.
“He’s got something to take care of.”

Ffe’s not here?”

“There are so many cute boys this year! Especially that one just now. Rumor has it he’s even better than Tomas was when he first started, only second to Prince Atlas. Is November really cool with you hanging around all these boys?”
Layla could only laugh.
‘Only second to Atlas? So basically, no one can ever measure up to Atlas, Layla thought.
But after all that, Layla kept catching curious glances thrown her way, some subtle, some not so much.
Whenever she looked back, those stares vanished in an instant.
What really got under Layla’s skin was that one particular stare. It felt downright hostile, dripping with bad intentions.
Soon enough, it was Layla’s turn to take the stage.
She slipped through a side entrance to the backstage area and waited there while the upperclassman representative was speaking up front.
As it turned out, Layla actually knew him. He was Marcus, the guy who’d tried to pick a fight with November before.
Marcus was talented, but since he’d been adopted by a noble family, he basically had to do whatever they told him.
That included trying to provoke November, and even stuff like what job he’d get or whom he’d have to marry.
Layla used to be in the same boat as him.
But Layla chose a totally different path.
Marcus shot Layla a look backstage and then walked on stage to give his speech.
“Layla,” came a soft voice.
Layla was sitting there, waiting for her name to be called, when she heard it and turned around to see Xanthe.
Xanthe looked so much thinner, just like when she’d first returned to the Sullivan family.
Her stomach was flat now. It looked like the baby was gone for good.
But what really got Layla was the look in Xanthe’s eyes, which were unfamiliar.
Xanthe used to be super scheming, but her little plots were always written all over her face.
To put it simply, she was clever, but not exactly subtle.
Now, though, Xanthe was a total mystery.
Layla just nodded, not saying a word, but Xanthe scooted over and sat down right next to her.
Xanthe said softly, “Layla, everything that happened before was my fault. I always thought you stole everything from me,
but I finally realized that while I was gone, you were the one taking care of Mom, Dad, and Nolan.
“I should’ve thanked you, not tried to kick you out the moment I came back to the Sullivan family, or even snatched your fiancé. I never loved Caleb.
“I just wanted to get back at you, thinking he was supposed to be mine. I did something really stupid.”
Xanthe gently touched her flat stomach and continued, “Layla, don’t worry. I’m done with Caleb for good.”
Layla didn’t want to reply. There was this nagging sense of wrongness in her chest that she just couldn’t shake.
This girl sitting beside her didn’t seem like Xanthe anymore.
Layla couldn’t help but wonder, ‘If she’s not Xanthe, then who is she really?’
Seeing Layla’s cold reaction, Xanthe sighed. “Layla, we’ve got plenty of time. You’ll see that I really mean what I say.”
It was finally Layla’s turn to speak.
Layla stood up, glanced back at Xanthe, and finally said to her, “Xanthe, if only you’d been like this when you first came back to the Sullivan family.”
Xanthe’s eyes narrowed, her face instantly guarded.
‘Did Layla figure something out?’ Xanthe wondered.
Layla wrapped up her speech in no time.
As she nodded to the teachers and students below, she caught sight of the cheetah shifter again. He was watching her with obvious curiosity.
His stare was a little bold, but Layla didn’t really mind.
When Layla sat back down, Annie leaned in and whispered, “Hey, that cheetah boy kept checking you out. Is he crushing on you or something? Looks like November’s got some competition!”

“Oh, quit it,” Layla replied.
‘Alright, alright, I’ll drop the boys talk. But seriously, your so-called sister has really leveled up. Think Caleb’s gonna start regretting dumping her again?” Annie snickered.
