Chapter 126 He Had It Coming
Chapter 126 He Had It Coming
Caleb was in the same year as Layla.
Layla instinctively turned her head and, just as she expected, spotted Caleb not far away, watching Xanthe on stage with mixed emotions.
“Regret or not, he had it coming,” Layla said.
“True that,” Annie replied.
Layla thought Xanthe was acting strange, but Caleb was an absolute scumbag. He kept flip-flopping, and even after Xanthe got pregnant, he still dumped her.
Now Xanthe’s a star student with the sky’s the limit, and he’s suddenly full of regret. How pathetic.
‘Does he think regret’s some magic pill you can just pop?’ Layla thought.
The opening ceremony was just speech after speech, and the students were bored out of their minds. Everyone just zoned out and started messing with their optical computers.
Layla turned and saw Annie secretly sending a message to Randall.
Layla glanced at her optical computer.
November hadn’t messaged her for so long. ‘Did his rut finally end?’ Layla wondered.
Feeling a bit down, Layla refused to let herself mope. She did the math in her head. The customer from the mech suit forum should have gotten the mech suit by now.
Once he confirmed the delivery, she’d be three million starcoins richer.
That’d be just enough to buy Celia and her team a mech suit aero-vehicle. ‘Wait, and November said he’d arrange for Ms. Brennan to meet with Her Majesty, didn’t he?’ Layla thought.
Layla looked at her optical computer, feeling a bit troubled, but in the end, she sent the message anyway.
Layla: [Are you seriously setting up a meeting with Her Majesty? Or were you just being polite? You know how messy things are for us.]
Atlas was in the middle of a meeting when Zee read out the message. He raised an eyebrow.
‘So, does Layla want Celia to meet my mom, or not?’ Atlas thought.
Across the table, Krish noticed Atlas zoning out and asked with concern, “Atlas, if you’ve got something else to handle, go ahead. We’ve already laid out the pros and cons to Father and the Council. Whatever happens next is up to them.”
Atlas snapped back to attention, his gaze turning cold. “I wouldn’t dare leave for a second. The moment I do, you’ll seize the opportunity to merge Sector Three Command into the Fifth Legion.”
Krish said, cool as ever, “Let’s be honest, Victor’s the real MVP this time. If he hadn’t swooped in when he did, everyone left in Sector Three Command, including Commander Nolan, would’ve been done for.”
“Then why didn’t Victor go after the rebels? Why did he just let them walk away with the energy?” Atlas shot back.
Victor quickly jumped in, “The rebels’ firepower was insane! If we’d gone after them, we wouldn’t have stood a chance!”
“If their firepower was that strong, why did they let you go? You just said the rebels are ruthless. They don’t spare civilians, let alone the Alpha Prime military,” Atlas pressed.
Victor looked awkward and shot Krish a pleading look.
Krish fiddled with his cufflinks and said, “The rebels are usually ruthless. They’ll wipe out an entire planet without a second thought, and everyone knows it.
“But sometimes, they get unpredictable. Like just recently, Tomas and a few others ran into the rebels, and surprisingly, they let them off.”
The other council members nodded in agreement.
Everyone was aware of that.
Atlas sat there, hands folded on the table, a smirk tugging at his lips. “You’re not wrong. Sometimes the rebels are downright vicious, showing no mercy to innocents, but other times, they’re oddly generous. Could it be that there are actually two separate rebel factions?”
Successfully unlocked!
Krish’s eyes narrowed, looking a bit puzzled. “Now that you put it then my Atlas, you might be onto something.” Atlas gave a cold laugh.

Zee piped up in his earpiece, “When you said that, Prince Krish’s eyes twitched three times. You totally nailed his weak spot! Bet that other bunch of psycho rebels has something to do with him!”
Just then, Senator Chase spoke up, “Dealing with one rebel faction is already making life hell for our whole star systern if there’s a second group out there, we’re really in trouble.”
“Senator Chase, you’re missing the point! There are two rebel groups. One actually listens to reason, and the other’s totally out of controll” Roger added.
Krish’s face was back to normal. He glanced at Atlas and said, “I get your point, Atlas, and I agree, but isn’t this kind of off- track from what we’re supposed to be discussing with the Council right now?”
“No, it’s not just relevant, and it’s a big deal!” Atlas gave Victor a cold smirk. “Commander Lee, let’s be honest. You’re nowhere near as skilled as Nolan, and your Fifth Legion isn’t any bigger than Sector Three Command.
“So why did the rebels bail as soon as you showed up? Why didn’t they just take you out along with the rest?”
Victor protested, “Your Highness, that’s not really how it went down! The rebels didn’t bail just because I showed up. They d already grabbed the energy and didn’t want to get into a drawn-out fight, so they pulled out.
“And I was way more worried about the troops in Sector Three Command, so I didn’t go after them. Chasing thern would’ve just meant pointless losses. Every stellar ranger is an asset to Alpha Prime!”
Atlas let out a cold laugh. “Sure, stellar rangers are Alpha Prime’s greatest asset, but isn’t their whole purpose to defend our people and our energy resources?”
He turned to the king and the council. “Father, everyone here knows Nolan fought tooth and nail with his Sector Three Command to protect Alpha Prime’s energy, and they suffered heavy losses. Nolan himself is still lying in the hospital, unconscious.
“And now you want to just fold the Sector Three Command he bled for into the Fifth Legion? Isn’t that a slap in the face to the stellar rangers?
“Would they still be willing to fight to the death for Alpha Prime? And when Nolan wakes up, how do you think he’ll feel about all this?”
The council members fell silent.
The other commanders felt the sting themselves.
They were out there on the front lines, battling void raiders, rebels, and all sorts of man-eating starbeasts, and yet they couldn’t even rely on the most basic support from above.
Today, it was Nolan lying in that hospital bed. Tomorrow, it could be any one of them.
Krish arched an eyebrow, shooting Atlas a surprised look.
‘Wasn’t Atlas always the hotheaded, unreasonable type? Always so stubborn, always bulldozing his way to whatever he wanted?’ Krish thought. ‘But today, he’s actually playing the crowd?’
Just then, the king, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke, “Atlas is right. We’ve been so focused on optimal troop deployment that we overlooked the feelings of the stellar rangers in Sector Three Command.
“So, we’ll do as Atlas suggests. For now, Roger from the First Legion will temporarily lead the remaining stellar rangers in Sector Three Command. Once Commander Nolan regains his health, he will resume command.”
As soon as the king finished speaking, Krish’s camp immediately started getting restless.
Someone couldn’t hold back and said, “But what if Nolan never recovers? What if he never wakes up?”
