Chapter 127 Thinking About Divorcing You

Chapter 127 Thinking About Divorcing You

Karter, who was sitting on the sidelines and technically had no say in the matter, suddenly shot to his feet, his face stormy with anger. “Are you seriously hoping Nolan drops dead?”

The senator who just spoke shifted awkwardly. “That’s not what I meant. I’m just talking about the situation

Atlas spun a dagger between his fingers, a sly grin tugging at his lips as he shot the senator a look, but addressed Karter Karter, you’d better keep a close eye on your son.

“If anything happens to him, you’ll know exactly who to blame. It’s Senator Ford.”

Karter glared daggers at Senator Ford.

Senator Ford immediately panicked, plastering on a nervous smile. “I swear, that’s not what I meant! I’d never do something like that, really!”

Atlas nodded. “Yeah, you wouldn’t do it yourself, but everyone who’s ever tried to snatch Nolan’s Sector Three Command has thought about it. So, you all better hope Nolan gets back on his feet soon.”

The others were so pissed that they could barely hold it together, but none of them dared say a word. A few even shot Krish desperate looks, hoping for help.

But Krish didn’t even bother to look their way.

And just like that, the meeting was over.

As Atlas headed for the door, Karter hurried after him.

He gave Atlas a respectful salute. “Thank you, Your Highness!”

“You should be thanking Layla,” Atlas said over his shoulder, not even bothering to look back as he walked away.

He was only helping Nolan for Layla’s sake. The Sullivan family might not treat her all that well, but Nolan always made sure she was taken care of.

Atlas couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy at how much Layla cared about Nolan, but he had to admit Zee had a point.

As long as everyone saw Nolan as her big brother, even if Nolan had feelings for Layla, he’d never cross that line.

After all, Nolan was just too honorable for that.

In a pretty good mood, Atlas made his way to the palace. He needed to ask Leilani about meeting up with Celia.

Meanwhile, in the coffee room, a servant respectfully brought steaming coffee to the king and Krish

The king frowned. “Krish, you were far too impatient today. I watched Nolan grow up, and once he’s recovered, he’ll be back

in charge of Sector Three Command. If he’s out of commission for too long, then we’ll revisit the issue.”

“I admit I was too hasty this time. I just don’t want to see our troops sitting idle,” Krish looked up, his eyes cold and determined. “But Father, don’t you see it? Atlas isn’t the same as before.”

The king paused, his hand hovering over his cup as he looked up, looking puzzled.

Krish went on, “Normally, he’d just go straight for it and take those troops for himself, no trying to persuade anyone, and definitely not subtly trying to win people over.”

The king’s brow twitched.

He had to admit, after Atlas’s speech, everyone would probably think he was in the right, while Krish would just come off as cold and unfeeling.

The king fell into deep thought.

Meanwhile, Atlas was having afternoon tea with Leilani, telling her about everything that went down. Leilani shook her head. “Atlas, after what you did today, everyone’s going to think you’re just trying to win people over

“Doesn’t matter what I do, they’d still think that,” Atlas replied

“That’s just how it is Krish doesn’t have your talent, so he’s never really at ease in that seat.”

“So, Morn, when Krish finally takes over, I’ll take you away with me. We could go back to Meridia, or maybe settle down on one of my own worlds.”

He paused for a moment and then added softly. “And Layla, of course’

Leilani felt both comforted and wistful, but the Successfully unlocked! oo. In the end, she could only sigh

Atlas wasn’t much of a talker, and he had no clue how to penat case, so he changed the subject and brought up meeting Celia at the orphanage.

Leilani’s eyes lit up. “Sounds good. But Celia doesn’t know our real identities, does she?”

“No, she doesn’t,” Atlas replied.

“Well, I bet Layla’s probably thinking about divorcing you all the time. That’s probably why she doesn’t want anyone around her to know who you really are.”

As soon as she said that, Atlas’s face turned dark. Leilani burst out laughing. “Alright, I’ll go meet Celia at the orphanage. Atlas, should I bring some gifts?”

Atlas’s expression shifted from gloomy to bright, and he nodded. “Just bring a little something.”

But Leilani wasn’t about to settle for that. She knew Layla was really close to Celia, and in her mind, Celia was basically Layla’s side of the family.

‘Meeting Layla’s family isn’t something I can take lightly, Leilani thought. ‘I have to make sure I’m properly prepared.’

Still, since they had to keep their true identities secret, she’d have to be extra thoughtful about what gifts to bring.

After talking it over with Leilani, Atlas shot Layla a text, telling her Leilani would be free the afternoon after tomorrow and planned to drop by.

Layla paused when she saw the message, feeling a bit unsure.

She wasn’t sure if Atlas was done with his rut yet, or if he’d be easy to talk to. Plus, she doubted it was really okay for the queen to meet Celia.

Layla: [Is this really a good idea?]

November: [Yeah.]

Layla: [Alright, I’ll head back early then.]

November: [See you.]

After putting down her optical computer, Layla looked at the brief message. That curt reply pretty much confirmed Atlas was out of his rut.

‘Looks like my sweet Ninth is gone again, Layla thought, feeling a pang of disappointment.

Atlas was still tempted to keep faking his rut, but Andrew had already warned him. If he kept up the act any longer, he’d totally blow his cover.

He couldn’t risk getting exposed until he figured out the best way for him and Layla to actually get along.

Atlas checked his optical computer. Sure enough, Layla hadn’t sent him another message.

The ever-handsome Prince Atlas ground his teeth in frustration, wishing he could go back to his rut days when Layla couldn’t stop fussing over him. He was honestly jealous of his own rut self for the thousandth time.

Just then, Zee suddenly spoke up, “The mech suit you ordered online has shipped and arrived at the address you gave. Want me to forward it to you now?”

Atlas said, “Yeah.”

A faint smile tugged at Atlas’s lips.

He’d see Layla at the orphanage in two days, and that’s when he’d hand her the mech suit.

‘This is a Hades original. Layla’s gotta love it, Atlas thought, feeling a rush of excitement.

Meanwhile, Layla put her optical computer down and started organizing her books. This semester, Shayla’s hands-on classes had really picked up, especially for Class S. Every day was packed with training.

Just then, her optical computer chimed with a new message.

Bruce: [Layla, are you a native of Alpha Prime?)

Layla stared at the message for a few seconds and then remembered that Bruce was the junior she’d added at the auditorium.

She just replied with a simple “No” and didn’t think much of it.

Layla was thinking she should drop by the hospital sometime in the next few days to check on Nolan. She had no clue when he’d finally wake up.

Right then, Bruce pinged her again.

Bruce: [Layla, do you know Wastelands-9 Orphan Core?]

Chapter 128 Did I Interrupt Anything?

Layla: [Yeah, I grew up there. What’s up?]

Bruce: [Could you open your door? Let’s talk face to face.]

Layla paused as she read the message, looking a bit skeptical. She walked over and opened the door, and sure enough, Bruce was standing there in his freshman uniform, right outside her dorm.

He looked like he’d been waiting for ages, since a bunch of people nearby were giving him curious glances

Layla was already a campus celebrity, having just given a speech at the opening ceremony, so everyone was watching her

every move.

And the thing was, this guy standing at her door, even though he’d just started school, with talent even stronger than Tomas’s, had become a campus celebrity.

When two people in the spotlight stood together, the attention they got was definitely doubled.

Layla couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “What do you want?”

“Layla, can we talk about the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core? I’ve got a relative who used to stay there,” Bruce said.

‘So that’s it, Layla thought to herself. ‘If his relative stayed at the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core, that makes them my sibling

too.’

Layla nodded and gestured for Bruce to come in. She headed for the fridge. “What do you want to drink?”

“Whatever,” Bruce replied.

Since he said whatever, Layla just grabbed two bottles of milk and handed one to him.

Bruce never drank milk, but since Layla handed it to him, he grimaced and choked it down like it was medicine, looking absolutely miserable.

Layla just stared at them in silence.

‘If you didn’t like it, why say whatever?’ Layla grumbled to herself.

Layla coughed awkwardly. “How old is your relative? Any details you remember? If the person’s a lot older than me, I probably won’t recall who the person is, but I can check with Ms. Brennan for you.”

“She’s in her early twenties, about three years older than me. She is my cousin. She was kidnapped when she was little, and we never found any clues. The only thing we know is that she’s a wolf shifter,” Bruce said.

Layla narrowed her eyes, giving Bruce a scrutinizing look.

Bruce set down the milk bottle and said, “Yeah, I think you might be my cousin. We got word you might have lived at the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core, so we went to check, but you weren’t there.

“Next time we went, the whole place was empty. So, when I got into Imperial Academy, I started looking for wolf shifters around your age, and that led me to you.”

There were other wolf shifters her age at Imperial Academy.

But Layla was the only one who actually lived at the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core.

Layla lowered her gaze, gripping the milk bottle tightly. “Then why didn’t you just ask Ms. Brennan?”

“Well, we’ve got our reasons,” Bruce said, looking a bit awkward.

“And does your family-” Layla began, her tone curious.

Layla was just about to ask Bruce if his family had any ties to Louis when suddenly, the dorm room buzzer went off. Layla got up and walked to the door, only to find Annie standing there with Alex and Wallace.

She blinked in surprise.

‘Did we plan a team hangout?’ Layla wondered, a bit confused.

But she still opened the door, and Annie peeked her head in first, her cat ears flattened back. She glanced around and then lowered her voice. “Layla, I didn’t interrupt anything, did 17”

“Huh?” Layla blinked, a little lost.

Annie saw Bruce sitting there, perfectly compo

eyes.

Successfully unlocked!

She let out a quiet sigh of relief.

‘Phew, at least nobody’s half-naked or anything: Annie thought to herself.
