Chapter 128 Did I Interrupt Anything?

Annie lowered her voice and asked Layla, “Have you checked the school forum? Whatever, can we come in? Let’s talk inside.

Layla nodded and let the three of them in.

After closing the door, Layla pulled up the school forum and saw that the top post was all about her.

Hashtag: [A Mech Engineering sophomore is a total player! She’s already married and still flirting with freshmen!]

The post had photos of Bruce standing outside Layla’s dorm, Layla letting him in, and even a shot of her closing the door behind him.

The post was anonymous.

Some people in the comments were defending Layla, saying she wouldn’t do something like that.

Others weren’t so sure and kept throwing shade.

And then there were a few who were straight-up nasty.

Layla glanced up, and Annie rushed to explain, “It wasn’t me this time! As soon as I saw it, I grabbed them and came over.”

As soon as Wallace walked in, he made himself at home, heading straight for the fridge to grab a bottle of milk and a bag of snacks.

Alex shot Bruce an eager look, grinning. “Hey, freshman, up for a PK?”

Layla just stared at them in silence.

Still, she was grateful to them. It was her own slip-up this time. ‘If it were November, he’d totally make a fuss about this,’ Layla thought to herself. ‘But Atlas? He probably wouldn’t give a damn about something like this.’

She felt oddly calm about it.

She turned to Bruce. “I’ll look into the thing you asked me to help with, and once I’ve got some answers, I’ll let you know.”

Bruce was quick on the uptake. He realized Layla couldn’t get into details with so many people around, but she didn’t refuse him. ‘She probably wants to find her real family too, he thought.

He’d actually come over hoping to do a DNA test with Layla, just to see if she was really his cousin.

‘Guess I’ll have to set this up another time, Bruce thought to himself.

Bruce nodded and got up to leave, but Alex darted after him. “Hey, freshman, wanna spar at the PK Arena?”

“I’m in!” Bruce shot back.

“Let’s hit the Mech Combat Arena now. Wait too long, and we’ll lose our spot!” Alex grinned.

It was the first day for the freshmen, and they were all fired up, hunting for upperclassmen to challenge. Someone had already tried to take on Alex, but he wiped the floor with them.

With the challenge in the air, Bruce, never one to back down, agreed without a second thought.

Annie caught on right away and turned to Layla. “Layla, let’s go watch the match together. That way, everyone will just think Bruce came to challenge you, nothing romantic or scandalous.”

“Seriously, there’s nothing between us,” Layla said, rolling her eyes.

“Say no more, I totally get it!” Annie said, waggling her eyebrows at Layla.

Layla thought, ‘Annie clearly has no clue. She’s probably cooking up some wild scenarios in her head.”

But Layla was curious to see what Bruce was really made of, so she agreed to tag along and watch the action at the Mech Combat Arena.

Bruce already saw Layla as his cousin, and since Alex was part of her squad, he gave Alex a heads-up. “Hey, girl, just so you know, I don’t hold back in a fight. Try not to get hurt, okay?”

“Girl?” Annie cracked up, nearly falling over with laughter, and Wallace was laughing so hard that he dropped his chips.

Layla rubbed her forehead, feeling a bit helpless.

‘Yikes, Bruce just stepped on a landmine, Layla thought.

Alex was ridiculously good-looking, and the one thing he hated most in life was people mistaking him for a girl.

Sure enough, Alex cracked his knuckles, his cold smirk saying it all. “Don’t worry, freshman. I never pull my punches!”

Bruce had a big question mark on his face, turning to Layla for help.

Layla nodded. “Yeah, he’s a guy.”

Bruce was shocked.
