Chapter 129 Your Wife’s About To Be Snatched
Every time Imperial Academy kicked off a new semester, the Mech Combat Arena was always buzzing with activity.
Only the elite got to study here, and the Trooper Division of the College of Military was especially packed with competitive types.
That was just how shifters were, hardwired for a fight.
The College of Military teachers kept a close eye on the arena, always on the lookout for promising talent to groom for the future.
So, Herbert from the Trooper Division was here too. The moment he spotted Layla at the Mech Combat Arena, he made a beeline for her.
“Layla, are you here to spar with your classmates?” Herbert asked.
“No, I just came along with a friend,” Layla replied.
“Oh, so are you still thinking about switching divisions?”
“Professor, we’ve already been assigned to our divisions.”
Layla couldn’t help but roll her eyes. She was already a sophomore, yet Herbert was still trying to poach her for his division. Herbert glanced around, making sure Shayla wasn’t lurking nearby. He lowered his voice and said, “Being assigned doesn’t mean it’s set in stone. If you want, I can pull some strings and get you transferred.”
“No need, Professor.”
Herbert looked a bit disappointed, but he didn’t leave. He noticed Alex was missing from the group. Then he found he was up on the arena platform.
Facing Alex was Bruce, the star freshman everyone had been talking about.
Herbert’s eyes sparkled with interest. “So, Bruce is challenging Alex? Bruce is a powerhouse. Alex might not stand a chance.”
Most freshmen were still getting the hang of piloting mech suits, and some came from remote planets. Even if they had talent, they might never have even touched a mech suit before, let alone owned one of their own.
So, Alex crossed his arms, looking all cool and aloof. “How do you want to do this? You pick. If we go straight to mech suits, people will say I’m bullying you.”
Bruce tilted his head. “Let’s use the practice mech suits then. I can’t use my own. People will say I’m bullying you.” “You!” Alex snapped.
‘This freshman is way too cocky. He needs to be put in his place!’ Alex thought.
The two of them started brawling, and it didn’t take long for a crowd to gather around.
Layla watched the match closely, and her eyes locked on the arena. She could tell Bruce was insanely skilled at piloting mech suits. He must have had at least five years of experience.
On top of that, Bruce’s psychic force was higher than Alex’s, and he wasn’t lacking in experience.
‘Alex is definitely going to lose, Layla thought.
Annie and Wallace were hyping Alex up, but Layla just shook her head, not joining in.
Herbert noticed too. “Looks like Alex is gonna lose. Who would’ve thought Bruce would be this good? Especially, he’s coming from some backwater star system. By the way, Layla, I heard you and Bruce are pretty tight?”
Layla turned her head.
Herbert gave a sly smile. “That’s what everyone’s saying on the forums.”
Layla said coldly, “Professor, you read gossip threads too?”
“Just now and then. But if you’re worried your husband might get the wrong idea, I can reach out to the forum admins and have them take the post down.”
“No worries, he won’t get the wrong idea.”
Meanwhile, Zee was just surfing the net when queefully und

“It’s a post on the forum, and there are pictures to prove it! Atlas, I’ll pull it up for you right now!” Zee said.
On the virtual screen, a post popped up. There weren’t many replies since the people involved just ignored it.
The photos were pretty sketchy, nothing concrete, and later on, Layla’s squadmates showed up in the shots too.
Someone finally summed it up: [False alarm, guys, just a misunderstanding. It’s a challenge match. Bruce called out Alex, and they’re both at the Mech Combat Arena.]
Honestly, this gossip thread should’ve fizzled out by now. It had already been debunked, and everyone’s moved on.
Still, Atlas saw it anyway.
Zee kept mumbling, “I’m telling you. This is definitely not Mrs. Zimmer’s fault. That cheetah claims he’s just challenging Alex, but he must have some serious guts. He’s totally got his sights set on Mrs. Zimmer!”
Atlas shot Zee a frosty look and muted it.
He’d planned to finish up his business in the next couple of days. Since he couldn’t see Layla before then, he figured they’d meet up at the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core the day after tomorrow.
He was also going to hand her the mech suit while he was at it.
But now, Atlas changed his mind.
He got up, hopped into his aero-vehicle, and set his course straight for Imperial Academy.
Layla had no idea Atlas was already on his way. She just realized the outcome in the arena had already been decided.
No surprise there. Bruce came out on top.
Herbert, standing nearby, sighed, “Alex is really talented, but Bruce is just on another level. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a single trooper at Imperial Academy who could beat him.”
Layla just shook her head.
‘Professor, you’re really putting a target on Bruce’s back with that, Layla thought.
Up in the arena, Bruce hopped out of his mech suit and said to Alex, “Dude, you are good.”
Alex’s face soured, not because he couldn’t handle losing, but because Bruce kept calling him girl.
He snapped back, “Don’t think I was holding back. You’re good, but I underestimated you this time. Next round, I won’t make the same mistake!”
“Bring it on,” Alex replied.
After they added each other as friends, Bruce strolled up to Layla, his eyes practically glowing. “Hey, Layla, I heard you’re a legend with mech suits. Wanna spar? Relax, I’ll go easy on you.”
Alex, who’d just gotten wrecked by the freshman, could only stare blankly.
Wallace tried to cheer him up. “Come on, don’t overthink it. Maybe he’s just got a soft spot for her.”
Annie folded her arms and snorted, “What’s your angle, huh? Picking on our squad’s mech engineer? Why not fight a trooper instead? Let me teach you a lesson!”
Bruce shook his head. “Nah, forget it. You’re not even on Alex’s level.”
‘Damn it, even if he’s right, having a freshman say it to my face is seriously annoying! Annie thought.
She gave Layla a pat on the shoulder. “Layla, go get him! Teach this cocky freshman a lesson!”
Everyone was calling for Layla to get in the ring, and even Herbert was joining in, hyping her up.
“Layla, let’s see your mech skills! If you can’t beat Bruce, guess you’ll have to join the Trooper Division!” Herbert teased. Herbert was still hung up on Layla not switching to the Trooper Division.
Layla thought, ‘If I can’t beat him, shouldn’t that mean I’m even less suited for the Trooper Division?”
Still, Layla was really curious about Bruce’s true abilities. Plus, he hadn’t even brought out his own mech suit yet.
‘Could it be that Bruce’s mech suit was built by one of those top-tier mech engineers?’ Layla wondered. ‘Wait, could it actually be Louis?’
But this wasn’t the right time for Bruce to bring out his own mech suit, so Layla just nodded and made her way over to the practice mech suits set up in the arena.
“Alright, let’s see what you’ve got,” she said.
Bruce was practically bouncing with excitement.

From all the info he’d found, Layla was a total prodigy. She could’ve easily crushed it in either the Command Division or the Trooper Division. –
But she went and picked the Mech Engineering Division instead.
That just made Bruce even more pumped to see what she could really do in a match!
