Chapter 135 Wanna Be Shut Down Again?

Chapter 135 Wanna Be Shut Down Again?

It was all because Atlas had been wearing a mask the whole time, so Layla didn’t realize it was him and thought it was November.

She quickly shook off his hand. “I’m going to check on them.”

With that, Layla hurried away and soon disappeared from sight.

Atlas stared at his empty palm, his handsome brows knitting in frustration.

Zee sighed softly. “Mr. Zimmer, maybe you should go ask Dr. Gill if there’s a way to keep someone stuck in rut mode or always in a childlike state.”

“Are you asking to get shut down again?” Atlas said.

Atlas pressed his lips together and strode toward the living room.

Many kids were standing there, bowing and greeting Leilani sweetly. Leilani smiled as she took out boxes of little gifts from her storage capsule, handing them out to the children.

“Whoa, this is the newest remote-controlled aero-vehicle!” one kid shouted excitedly.

“Mine’s awesome! It’s a super rare cotton-linen dress!” another kid cheered.

“This one’s my favorite! It’s a remote-controlled mech suit model,” a third kid chimed in.

The youngest girl, who held up her gift, looked completely baffled. Liam walked over to help her out and said, “Cheryl, your gift is a storage capsule! It’s so big that you could fit our whole house inside!”

“Whoa!” All the kids gasped, their faces lighting up with excitement.

Seeing how hyped the kids were, Celia was totally floored. She blurted out, “Leilani, girl, how could you give them such pricey gifts?”

Leilani just smiled. “They’re not pricey at all. Just some fun little things the kids enjoy.”

To get these gifts just right, she even sent Mollie to ask around and find out what kids of all ages would want.

Layla did a quick mental calculation and realized that all the gifts Leilani had given the kids together could keep the entire Wastelands-9 Orphan Core running for thirty years.

‘Not pricey? Seriously?’ Layla couldn’t help but think, a bit speechless.

She wanted to refuse, but then she saw Leilani wink at her and silently mouth, “Just accept it.”

Layla had no choice but to swallow her words and said seriously, “Leilani, thank you for your generosity.”

Celia, standing nearby, immediately chimed in, “Layla, why are you still acting so distant? You and Atlas are already married. You should be closer to her now.”

Leilani looked at Layla with gentle eyes, full of expectation.

Layla’s lips twitched. She really liked Leilani, and after a moment’s hesitation, she finally said, “Thanks, Leilani.”

“No need to thank me. We’re all family here,” Leilani replied warmly.

For a moment, the whole living room felt cozy and heartwarming, with everyone smiling.

Atlas watched everyone smiling and thought to himself, ‘Maybe I should ask Andrew later if there’s a good excuse for me to keep pretending to be November for the long term.’

Everyone was in a great mood at the party, especially after hearing that Layla had finally found her real family. Celia and all the kids from Wastelands-9 Orphan Core were over the moon for her.

Celia’s eyes grew wet as she said, “Back at the old orphanage, sometimes people would come looking for kids, but after talking, it always turned out they weren’t the ones we were hoping for.

“I’m just so happy you’ve finally found your true family, Layla! What do they do, and how did you end up separated from

them?”

“I’m not sure yet. I only got the genetic test results today. I’ll talk things over with my cousin soon,” Layla replied.

“That’s good, that’s good. But Layla, no matter what happens, this place will always be your home,” Celia said, her voice full of warmth.

Layla gave a solemn nod.

While the women were chatting inside, a few kids who used to be use to November-Liam leading the pack-came over and started tugging at ‘November’, wanting him to join them and play with their new toys.

Layla kept reminding herself that the ‘November’ today was really Atlas pretending to be him.

She was just about to step in and turn them down, but then she saw Atlas actually go off with Liam and the others. She couldn’t help but look worried.

Leilani caught the worry on Layla’s face. She knew all about Atlas pretending to be in ruts before, so she reassured her,” Layla, don’t stress. Atlas actually loves being around kids.”

‘Sure, I know November’s great with kids, but Prince Atlas? With that temper of his, no way he likes them; Layla thought, a little skeptical.

So even though Layla was sitting in the living room, she kept sneaking peeks out at the yard, just in case. Luckily, the drama she’d been bracing for never happened.

‘Guess Prince Atlas still remembers how November acted, so he’s really nailing the role, she thought.

Leilani couldn’t stay outside for too long. After lunch and a bit more playtime with the kids, she asked Atlas to give her a ride home.

Atlas stood by the aero-vehicle, shooting a look at Layla.

Leilani caught on and said, “Layla, are you heading back to school, too? If it’s on the way, we can drop you off first.”

Layla did need to go back to school, since she needed to ask Bruce about her family situation.

She nodded and climbed into the aero-vehicle with them. Leilani settled into the soft seat, looking a bit tired, and said with a smile, “It’s been ages since I felt this happy and relaxed. Layla, I really mean it. Thank you.”

“Don’t say that. I was actually worried I’d trouble you. The kids are always so noisy. I hope it wasn’t too much,” Layla replied. Leilani said, “How could I mind? Kids are adorable. I missed out on Atlas’s childhood, and I’ve always regretted it. “Watching Liam and the others now, it fills a bit of that hole in my heart. Layla, is it okay if I come by again in the future?” “Of course! As long as it doesn’t mess with your plans,” Layla said.

“Perfect! I’ve already friended Celia on my backup optical computer.” Leilani grinned.

As they chatted, Atlas didn’t say a single word the whole ride. When they finally reached Imperial Academy, Layla got out. Leilani sighed. “Atlas, is this really how you usually are with Layla?”

Atlas didn’t know what to say.

Leilani said, “Well, I can’t really blame you. The doctors did say you were pretty emotionally stunted… But do you think you could stay in November mode for a long time?

“Honestly, you and Layla seemed to get along a lot better when you were acting like him.”

Atlas frowned, watching Layla walk away through the window.

He said, “I’ve already asked Andrew to meet me in my office later.”

“Okay,” Leilani replied.

Leilani didn’t say anything else. She closed her eyes slightly, looking completely relaxed.

It was clear that she’d really enjoyed herself today.

Meanwhile, when Layla got back to school, she suddenly remembered Atlas still hadn’t returned the meds. She turned and headed straight for the campus medical center to pick them up.

The doctor had told her she was crazy fertile, which honestly just annoyed Layla even more.

‘This is such a hassle, she thought.

But there was nothing she could do about it.

Layla didn’t want to have a baby with Atlas with things still up in the air between them. That’d be totally unfair to the kid. Layla went to the campus medical center and immediately ran into a familiar face.

Jayvon was sprawled out with a broken leg again. His face was bruised and swollen, and he was just staring up at the white ceiling in a daze.

When he saw Layla walk in, he glanced at her and then went right back to zoning out.

Layla ignored him. He was way too sly for her taste. Honestly, it was a bit of a pain. Last time she went to the campus doctor for meds during boot camp, she’d bumped into him, too.

Layla didn’t say a word, but Jayvon couldn’t help breaking the silence. “Not even curious why I’m laid up here like this?”
