Chapter 141 About To Hit Rut Again?
Chapter 141 About To Hit Rut Again?
Layla’s mouth twitched.
‘No, nobody skipped it because of the green. It’s totally that damn mouth!’ Layla thought.
But when Roger saw Layla checking out the Scythe Envoy, he jumped in and said, “I actually wanted to go for the Scythe Envoy, but it didn’t pick me. Guess I wasn’t its type.”
High-level mech suits even had their own likes and dislikes.
They got to choose who they wanted to bond with.
The Scythe Envoy lifted its head with a proud swagger and said to Layla, “Sweetheart, I’m giving you permission to use me. Come on, get me out of this gloomy dump. Let’s go find some sunshine together…”
But before it could finish, a massive black mech suit appeared out of thin air and socked the Scythe Envoy right in the face. Everyone jumped in shock at the sudden twist.
Layla relaxed the moment she realized it was Ares.
Sure enough, when she looked up, there was Atlas not far away, holding the mech suit key, his expression as icy and aloof as always.
Layla didn’t know what to say.
‘Did Ares just pop out on its own?’ she wondered.
‘Maybe, she thought.
After all, Ares and she did have a history together.
The Scythe Envoy, usually so chatty, was now too scared to say anything for a moment. Its protective shield kept its face from getting dented, but it didn’t dare make a peep.
Well, it hadn’t really shut up-just that its tone had totally changed.
“Oh, isn’t this Ares? Weren’t you supposed to be out on a mission with Prince Atlas? How come you’ve got time to drop by?” the Scythe Envoy said, suddenly all flattering and obsequious.
It was acting so sycophantic that it didn’t look anything like a respectable mech suit.
Ares didn’t even spare the Scythe Envoy a glance. It marched right over and planted itself firmly at Layla’s side, making it clear who it was there for.
Every inch of its stance screamed protection.
If anyone else was dumb enough to talk trash to Layla, Ares would have zero problem busting their head open.
Roger quickly got his cool back, thinking, ‘Bet it was Prince Atlas who sent Ares to watch over Layla.
‘Man, I’d never guess it from that icy look, but Prince Atlas is totally the type to secretly spoil his girl.’
Shayla was the only one who was truly excited and anxious.
She gazed at Ares, her voice trembling. “Is this… Is this really the legendary Ares?”
After all, Ares was a legendary Ultra-S Tier mech suit, and the final masterpiece left behind by the legendary mech engineer Louis. It was no wonder Shayla was so thrilled.
Outside of Atlas’s exclusive starfleet, it was nearly impossible for ordinary people to ever lay eyes on Ares.
Getting this close to Ares, even Shayla, who was always calm and composed, couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement and nerves.
Layla nodded.
Shayla asked excitedly, “So, can I give the legendary Ares a feel?”
Mech engineers were all like that, honestly.
For Shayla to ask to touch it, it was her being seriously restrained compared to most.
There was this one mech engineer who, every time he spotted a mech suit he liked, just couldn’t resist wanting to tear it apart and see what made it tick.
Layla couldn’t answer that.
Successfully unlocked!
The whole display room went dead silent. Just a row be the quiet, the Scythe Envoy couldn’t help but chime in with a sly tone, “Whoa, pretty, you’ve got guts! You actually dare to touch Ares? Respect, you’re a real badass!”

Shayla snapped back, looking super flustered. She waved her hands, stammering. “I-I was just saying’ I swear, I didn’t actually mean it.”
Ares cocked its head, glancing at Layla. It could totally be told that Layla and this teacher were pretty tight.
A few seconds later, the massive mech suit spoke up in its deep voice, ‘Go ahead”
“What?” Shayla said.
Shayla was completely floored, and even Atlas, standing nearby, was a bit surprised.
Even Roger’s mouth twitched with envy as he looked at Ares. “Hey, Ares, last time I just touched your weapon and you straight-up kicked me! Man, talk about double standards!”
Why are these mech suits always so biased toward girls?’ Roger muttered to himself.
Shayla was totally starstruck. She reached out and gave the massive mech suit’s cold shell a gentle touch, looking all worshipful. “Seriously, I’m never washing this hand again!”
Layla just stood there, half laughing, half exasperated.
Ms. Mcgrath, you really don’t have to be THAT dramatic! Layla thought.
With Ares standing guard over Layla, none of the other self-aware mech suits dared to step out of line.
Atlas followed quietly behind, keeping his distance but never leaving her side.
His blue eyes calmly watched Layla, never wavering for a moment.
Layla’s attention was slowly drawn to all the different mech suits on display. Just like Shayla, she couldn’t take her eyes off them, totally mesmerized.
Back when she was learning mech design from Weston, the old man used to hook her up with all sorts of secret data on different mech suit models. He even snuck her into the mech suit hangar once.
But that time, they barely got to see a few mech suits before Weston accidentally woke up a super grumpy one. The mech suit immediately started chasing them around, trying to beat them up.
So Weston had no choice but to grab his little apprentice and make a run for it.
If they didn’t get out of there fast, the military guards would’ve caught them for sure.
It had been years since then, but just thinking about it now, Layla still got a little lost in the memory.
She was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn’t even realize when Atlas had come to stand right next to her.
But then she caught a faint, almost imperceptible whiff of cedar.
Layla snapped out of it, turning her head in surprise, only to find Atlas right there, his face as icy and unreadable as ever.
‘Wait, is he seriously about to hit rut again?’ Layla thought, a little worried.
‘Do all shifters with strong psychic force just randomly act up like this?’ she wondered.
Trying not to draw attention, she subtly scooted a bit closer to Ares.
Atlas’s brows knitted together. He wouldn’t have thought he’d actually get upstaged by his own mech suit one day.
Soon, they finished checking out the second basement level and were about to head down to the third.
This was the place where the most powerful and mysterious mech suits, like Ares, used to be on display.
But some of these mech suits were so full of personality that they didn’t even want to be out in the open. They just zipped right back into their mech suit keys.
And every single one of them gave off such a fierce vibe that regular folks couldn’t even get close. Just being near them could leave people shaken.
The designs came in all shapes and sizes. Layla even spotted a mech suit shaped like a giant bird.
Its whole body was covered in fiery red, as if it were burning.
Another one was even more striking. It looked just like a huge snake, coiled up in the corner. When it heard a sound, it opened one brown, serpentine eye, gave everyone a lazy look before closing it again.
Compared to the mech suits on the second basement level, these ones were much more distant and indifferent.
But even so, Shayla was still totally thrilled. She was so excited that her hands were literally shaking.
Layla was hyped, too, but with Ares, the ultimate mech suit, already at her side, the others just felt kinda lame in comparison.
When she turned her head, she realized Atlas was suddenly right beside her again.

He leaned in and asked in a low voice, “Don’t you like the mech suit I got for you?”
Layla quickly glanced around. Shayla was totally absorbed in the mech suits, and Roger was in on it, so she didn’t have to worry about him. There was no one else around.
Ares didn’t count as a person anyway.
She leaned in and whispered, “That mech suit was from November, wasn’t it?”
Atlas pressed his lips together. ‘Well, looks like all my hard work lately just went down the drain, he thought, feeling a bit defeated.
‘Why do I keep losing to November?’ he grumbled inwardly.
Atlas was really taking self-jealousy to a whole new level.
Right at that moment, a huge rumble shook the whole B3 level.
Ares didn’t miss a beat. It instantly ducked down and threw itself in front of everyone to protect them.
Everything that came flying slammed straight into Ares, leaving Layla and the rest totally unharmed.
‘Is someone actually stirring up trouble in the military’s mech suit hangar?’ Layla wondered, her heart skipping a beat.
For some reason, Layla’s brow furrowed. ‘God, don’t let it be Weston causing chaos again!’ she thought, freaking out a bit inside.
Atlas was already in a terrible mood, and now someone was looking for trouble, giving him the perfect excuse to blow off
some steam.
He told Roger to get Layla and the crew out of harm’s way, and then hopped right into Ares’s control pod.
Layla whipped her head around, her heart pounding. A massive octopus starbeast had just burst into the mech suit vault, and there was someone standing right on top of its head.
