Chapter 142 Something Happened To Layla

Chapter 142 Something Happened To Layla

‘Oh, it’s not Weston. This guy has way more hair than he does,’ Layla thought.

“Layla, hurry over here! There’s a safe passage. You and Ms. Mcgrath go this way. Just keep moving, go through three doors, and scan this ID card at each one. That’ll get you out of here,” Roger called out.

Roger instantly summoned his mech suit, slammed the alarm button, and geared up to jump straight into the fight.

Layla couldn’t help but glance back, worry etched on her face. She saw the massive Ares mech suit raise its lightsaber and slash at the pink octopus starbeast.

The starbeast’s tentacles were sliced off, but some of its suckers latched onto Ares’ blade.

In the next instant, the lightsaber flared with fire, slicing through the starbeast’s severed limb.

Roger spoke quickly, “Don’t worry. Prince Atlas is incredibly strong, and our security team is almost here. You two need to get out of here now, so you don’t get hurt.”

“Okay,” Layla replied.

Layla didn’t hesitate and followed Shayla into the passage Roger had shown them.

The metal walls of the passage were shiny enough to show their worried faces. Shayla saw Layla’s pale cheeks and quickly comforted her, “Layla, don’t worry. Prince Atlas is here. Nothing can touch us.”

“But… will Prince Atlas be in danger?” Layla asked, her voice shaky.

“No way! He’s the top commander from Alpha Prime. Nothing’s gonna happen to him!” Shayla said, full of confidence. Layla went quiet. Honestly, pretty much everyone on Alpha Prime saw Atlas as their unstoppable top commander- unbeatable, untouchable, and able to do anything.

But even with all that, his strength was so overwhelming that it was almost scary, and plenty of people were secretly afraid

of him.

For some reason, Layla couldn’t help but feel a nagging worry for Atlas.

She thought, ‘Is it because we’ve been spending so much time together lately?

‘Or maybe it’s because he’d accidentally let his pheromones leak out. His rut must be right around the corner.

‘If Atlas goes into a rut right now, there’s no way I can leave him. I’ll have to stay with him no matter what.’

Layla felt confused. ‘Am I more worried about Atlas when he is himself, or about November when he was in rut?’ she wondered.

Just then, the sound of military boots stomping down the corridor made Layla’s heart lurch with anxiety.

Roger had told them to just keep going straight, pass through three doors, and use the pass card he’d handed them.

‘Maybe someone’s here to back up Prince Atlas?’ Layla wondered, glancing ahead.

Shayla was thinking the same thing. Her face lit up, and she was convinced that reinforcements had finally arrived.

But for some reason, Layla felt uneasy. Her gut told her something wasn’t right.

They were practically right next to the third basement level of the mech hangar, and Roger had told them to just keep going straight. It was rare to run into anyone here.

Even if reinforcements were coming, they wouldn’t be coming through this way.

If Layla was remembering right, this passage was pretty much the same kind of private route Atlas used back at Imperial Academy.

If someone else showed up here, the only people who’d use this kind of passage would be those with the same kind of top- tier status as Atlas.

In the whole Alpha Prime, there were only a handful of people who could even come close to Atlas in terms of rank. At that moment, someone stepped into view for Layla and Shayla.

He wore a gold-and-white uniform with ancient symbols on the cuffs, had blond hair, and his features were sharp and handsome. When he smiled, there was a gentle warmth about him that made people instantly like him.

It was Prince Krish of the Alpha Prime.

Successfully unlocked!

Shayla froze for a second, then quickly placed but over her heart and bowed respectfully. “Prince Krish.”

After she finished, she noticed Layla hadn’t moved, so she gave her a meaningful look.

Layla pressed her lips together, copied Shayla’s bow, and then quietly stepped back half a pace, slipping behind Shayla to stay out of sight.

Shayla didn’t think much of it. She just figured Layla was nervous about meeting someone as high-ranking as Krish.

“What brings you here?” Krish’s eyes flicked over Layla, almost imperceptibly, before he addressed Shayla with a gentle tone.

Shayla quickly explained that she was here to give her student a tour of the facility.

“Normally, I wouldn’t even be allowed in here. It was Prince Atlas who invited us,” Shayla added.

Shayla said, “Prince Krish, please, it’s best if you don’t go in right now. There’s been an attack, and it’s really dangerous. Prince Atlas is in there with his team, taking care of it.”

“Looks like you two got quite a scare. Let me walk you out,” Krish said.

With that, he turned and headed out.

Shayla hurried after him.

Layla stayed close behind Shayla, but something about Krish showing up out of nowhere just felt wrong. He and Atlas were basically enemies, and with all the chaos happening inside, his timing was way too suspicious.

And now, he was heading this way all by himself.

Putting all that together, Layla just knew something wasn’t right.

‘This is just way too much of a coincidence,’ she thought.

Her instincts might not be as sharp as Bruce’s, but as a wolf shifter, she could still sense danger in her bones.

As they walked, Layla kept a close watch on Krish. He looked every inch the well-bred noble-carried himself with effortless elegance, like he’d been born for this kind of spotlight.

He kept striking up casual conversation with Shayla, acting totally down-to-earth, not a hint of arrogance anywhere.

But Layla’s instincts were still on high alert. She made sure Zaa was logging every detail, especially this suspicious appearance by Krish.

She knew that, in Krish’s eyes, her husband, November, was considered one of Atlas’s people.

There was no way Krish would ever let his guard down around him.

If nothing went wrong and they made it out safely, then fine.

But if anything happened to her, Zaa would shoot all this info over to Zee in a heartbeat.

Zee and Zaa were both Weston’s masterpieces. They could talk to each other even with most blockers around, and hardly any jammer could stop them.

They’d just passed through two doors and were about to reach the third when, all of a sudden, Shayla, who’d been chatting with Krish just moments before, went limp and collapsed to the floor.

“Ms. Mcgrath, are you okay?” Layla hurried to help her up, but Shayla was already out cold.

And then Layla realized that her optical computer had zero signal now.

There was a faint scent in the air, kind of sweet, but so cloying that it made her feel sick.

The more she breathed it in, the weaker she got. Her strength was draining away, her whole body starting to go limp.

Layla’s eyes widened, every instinct screaming that something was wrong.

She jerked her head up, heart pounding, and stared at Krish, who was standing just a few steps away.

Krish walked back over, still wearing that warm, approachable smile, as if nothing unusual was happening.

“Layla, you’re a clever one. I don’t get why your husband is so loyal to Atlas, but don’t you see? Sooner or later, the only king

Alpha Prime will ever have is me,” Krish said, his voice calm and full of quiet confidence.

Layla’s vision started to distort with the long corridor snaking and shifting as if it were alive.

She bit her tongue until it bled, the sharp pain snapping her back to her senses.

At the same time, she ordered Zaa to send a message to Zee at once.

Forcing herself to stay alert, Layla kept her voice steady. “I don’t know why my husband made that choice, and I honestly don’t get what you’re doing right now, Prince Krish.

“Ms. Mcgrath and I are just a couple of nobodies from Imperial Academy. Why are you coming after us?”
