Chapter 143 Atlas Arrived Just In Time

Chapter 143 Atlas Arrived Just In Time

“Ms. Mcgrath is an outstanding teacher in the Mech Engineering Division. I never planned to lay a finger on her. But you. You can get Tomas to wake up sooner,” Krish said, his tone sharp.

‘So it really is about this after all, Layla thought.

Layla gritted her teeth. “I thought you were going to swap Tomas out for Xanthe. So you’re still holding onto Tomas?” “Why would I give up on Tomas? He’s my own cousin,” Krish replied.

Layla wanted to say, ‘Atlas is your brother, too. Why do you always go after him?’

But she knew there was no point in saying it out loud.

It was all because of the throne.

Even though Atlas had never wanted to compete for the crown, as long as Krish kept worrying about it, the two half- brothers would be locked in conflict, always standing against each other.

Layla felt her vision swimming, everything around her turning into a haze. She freed up one hand and, grabbing Shayla’s hairpin, stabbed it hard into her own palm.

The sharp pain and the warm blood snapped her back to her senses.

‘Good thing Shayla brought that hairpin today, Layla thought. ‘We weren’t allowed to bring any weapons into the mech hangar for the tour, anyway.”

The sting of the wound snapped Layla back to her senses.

Krish had already walked over and crouched down in front of her. He was a little surprised to see that Layla’s eyes were still clear and sharp.

He said, “Your shift tier is high, and your self-control is impressive. Not many people could hold out this long. Pretty rare, honestly. It’s a shame for someone like you to end up with some nobody from a remote planet.

“I know what Tomas is like; if you married him, he’d be good to you. He’s even mentioned to me before that he thinks highly of you.

“Sure, your family isn’t anything special, but you’re so outstanding that you could still marry Tomas.”

Layla let out an angry laugh.

She thought, ‘So I’m supposed to be grateful just because I might get to marry Tomas?

‘And if Prince Krish ever realized that the so-called nobody he keeps trashing is actually his own brother, the one he’s always been paranoid about, I wonder if that pretentious, polished mask he wears would finally shatter. ‘It definitely would.’

“Prince Atlas is leagues above you,” Layla suddenly shot back.

Krish’s polite smile twisted for a moment, his refined mask slipping. He suddenly reached out and gripped Layla’s throat. He roared, “How dare you! Who gave you permission to say something like that? Just because I need you to help Tomas through his rut doesn’t mean you can act so recklessly!

“If I wanted you gone, you’d disappear from the universe without a trace! And no one would ever know how you died! “No, they’ll just think your teacher got possessed by a starbeast, went crazy, and ended up killing her favorite student by accident!”

It seemed that Krish thought Layla was no longer a threat, because he dropped all pretense of refinement, his face twisting into something wild and unhinged, almost maniacal.

‘If someone like him ever actually took the throne and became the king of Alpha Prime, he’d probably be a total warmonger Layla thought.

She had no idea why that thought suddenly popped into her head.

But in the next instant, Layla’s vision went red, and her eyes felt like they were about to pop out as Krish’s grip on her throat tightened.

She was suffocating, and that weird pheromone haze messed with her head. Her body just wouldn’t respond, no matter how hard she tried.

Successfully unlocked!

Just when Layla thought she was about to pass out, someone put one scene. The next thing she knew, Krish was sent flying into the metal wall with a bone-shaking thud.

Krish spat out a mouthful of blood.

Krish’s face went ghostly white as he stared at the newcomer, who gingerly scooped Layla’s limp body into his arms.

“Atlas?” Krish stammered, his voice trembling.

Atlas was in a half-shifted state, his nine tails fanned out behind him, each one glinting with a cold, dangerous light.

Shifters usually stayed in their human form, but there were only two situations where they’d shift or half-shift.

One was during their rut, when they were getting intimate with their partner.

The other was when they were absolutely furious, ready to go all out in a vicious fight.

Atlas dropped to one knee, cradling Layla in his arms, his nine tails lashing behind him. The blue in his eyes had vanished, replaced by a darkness so deep that it swallowed all color.

As dangerous and unfathomable as a black hole.

Krish felt a chill run down his spine. He stammered, “Atlas, I… I just wanted Layla to help Tomas, that’s all. She said no, and I got so worried about Tomas that I kind of freaked out, so…”

“Help Tomas? Have you forgotten she’s already married?” Atlas said, his voice icy.

“I know you care about her husband, but Tomas is our cousin…” Krish started, but before he could finish, Atlas lashed out with one of his tails, sending him flying again.

The corridor was narrow, so Krish crashed hard into the metal wall once more. This time, two of his ribs snapped, and the blood he coughed up was mixed with fragments of his insides.

Krish’s face was twisted in absolute horror.

‘Has Atlas really gotten this strong?’ he thought in disbelief.

“He’s your cousin, not mine!” Atlas snarled, his eyes swirling with killing intent. The psychic force around him was about to snap, barely held in check.

By now, Layla had snapped back to her senses. She gave a soft cough, drawing Atlas’s attention back to her.

Staring into those pitch-black, emotionless eyes, Layla knew she ought to be terrified, especially since Krish in the distance was already frozen in terror, his face ghostly pale.

But for some reason, she wasn’t afraid of Atlas, even though he was so dangerous.

Instead, her heart just ached for him.

Honestly, Atlas never gave a damn about the throne. He was always the one looking out for everyone on Alpha Prime, doing his best to keep them safe.

Right then, Roger and the other stellar rangers came running, and Krish’s adjutant and his crew showed up, too.

Down the long metal corridor, both sides watched each other in tense silence, everyone on edge and ready for whatever

came next.

Layla could feel the murderous intent blazing in Atlas’s eyes, but he absolutely couldn’t make another move against Krish

now.

Their relationship was already like oil and water.

If Atlas kept going after Krish, the guy would be dead sure that Atlas was gunning for the throne.

Even worse, it would totally blow Atlas’s cover and reveal just how powerful he really was.

And all those years Leilani spent holding back and working behind the scenes would go straight down the drain.

Leilani never wanted her son caught up in all this mess at the top. She just wanted him to have a quiet, happy life.

Layla felt like she was falling apart. Her throat burned, her pheromones were in chaos, and her psychic force was on the verge of snapping. Even so, she managed to reach out and rest’her hand on Atlas’s.

Even with his psychic force raging, Atlas still turned his hand over and held Layla’s.

His big hand wrapped around hers, his palm radiating warmth.

That warmth was filled with gentle affection.

‘As long as he responds, it’s not that bad, Layla thought.

Layla’s voice was soft and trembling. “Prince Atlas, I’m hurting… Can you get me out of here?”
