Chapter 144 Ninth, I Miss You
Chapter 144 Ninth, I Miss You
Atlas’s gaze shifted slightly, the pitch-black color gradually lightening until it returned to his usual blue.
“Okay,” he replied.
He picked Layla up and headed straight for the exit, right where Krish and his men were blocking the way.
Krish’s eyes narrowed at once, and everyone behind him went on high alert.
They were all scared of Atlas, worried he might go off again.
But Layla knew Atlas had decided not to go after Krish anymore. He just wanted to get her out of there.
Everyone else, including Krish, picked up on this, too, and they all instinctively relaxed.
Krish’s eyes flickered with a dark, conflicted light. For a moment, he was honestly terrified that Atlas might just end him right there.
He actually let out a breath of relief when he saw that Atlas was leaving.
That hit him hard since it was proof he was totally outclassed by Atlas.
No wonder his face looked so sour.
As Atlas walked past Krish with Layla in his arms, she tugged at his sleeve.
Atlas stopped in his tracks, and everyone around Krish tensed up again.
“What’s wrong?” Atlas asked.
“Ms. Mcgrath, too,” Layla reminded him.
Atlas glanced at her and then called out to Roger without even turning around. With Layla still in his arms, he strode out of the passage.
Soon, Atlas’s men had all left the place.
Krish’s men helped him up, and he spat out another mouthful of blood.
His adjutant hurried over. “Your Highness, are you alright? We need to get you to the Medical Center, now!”
Krish wiped the blood from his mouth, his eyes dark and stormy. “What’s happening inside?”
“The mutated starbeast’s been taken down, and that guy… Prince Atlas killed him,” the adjutant reported.
Krish’s face turned completely grim.
‘Useless!’ he cursed inwardly.

Atlas carried Layla out of the passage and headed straight for his office. Once they were inside, he called Andrew in.
Maybe it was because Atlas was there, Layla finally let her guard down. She stopped fighting off the effects of whatever had hit her, and soon, she was out cold.
“Layla! Wake up!” Atlas shouted.
Just before she slipped into darkness, Layla heard Atlas’s voice. Her mind was fuzzy, and she couldn’t figure out why he was so worried about her.
Andrew rushed in, having heard about the accident in the mech hangar and assuming Atlas was the one injured.
But when he entered, he found Atlas down on one knee by the couch, while Layla, still in her Imperial Academy uniform, lay there with her eyes shut tight.
It was the first time Andrew had ever seen Atlas so anxious, totally losing his usual composure. And also…
“Your Highness, your psychic force is unstable. You must stay in control-absolutely no losing it! I’m giving you a shot right now!” Andrew said urgently.
“I’m fine. See what’s wrong with her, now!” Atlas snapped.
“Yes, Your Highness,” Andrew replied.
Andrew immediately pulled out his medical scanner and checked Layla over. Then he administered some medicine to her.
He turned to Atlas. “Your Highness, Layla was Successfully unlocked! He’s already gone into rut. She tried to fight it
off with her psychic force, and it’s drained her quite a bi
“Just tell me what to do,” Atlas cut in impatiently.

Andrew replied calmly, “Right now, she needs you to soothe her.”
Atlas’s eyes turned icy with rage, murder simmering just beneath the surface. The thought of Krish resorting to something so vile to force Layla made his blood boil. He could barely hold back the urge to tear someone apart.
But for now, he had to shove all that fury aside and focus on soothing Layla.
Soon, Andrew left. Atlas was on one knee beside the couch, gently smoothing Layla’s messy bangs. Suddenly, she reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Ninth?” Layla murmured, her voice soft and a little dazed.
“Yes, it’s me,” Atlas replied.
“Ninth, I miss you…” Layla whispered, her words barely audible.
Atlas stiffened, his gaze growing even more complicated and intense.
He leaned down and kissed her gently. “I’m sorry…”
Nine fluffy white tails drifted through the air, while the scents of cedar and roses mingled and wrapped around each other, filling the room.
Layla, her mind growing hazy, was much more forward and bolder than she’d ever been before.
Atlas froze for a moment, surprised, but quickly matched her energy.
“Don’t leave!” Layla blurted out, her voice soft but insistent.
As soon as she realized that her favorite fluffy tail was about to slip away, Layla pouted, clearly unhappy, and yanked it right back into her arms.
Atlas could only stare, completely speechless.
He sighed inwardly. He’d just wanted to move her to the bed, even though his office was already decked out with a plush couch and the softest carpet. Not to mention, nobody could get in here without his say-so.
‘Forget it. If she wants to stay here, let her, Atlas thought, a little helpless but mostly indulgent.
When Layla finally came to, she realized she was sprawled out on a plush black couch. The heavy scent of pheromones still hung in the air, making it obvious what had gone down here.
That familiar cedar scent made her feel dazed, like she’d been whisked right back to that day at the courthouse, the first time she’d ever seen Atlas in the middle of his rut.
‘Prince Atlas?’ Layla wondered, her mind still hazy.
Layla sat up, the blanket slipping off and exposing her smooth skin. Right at that moment, Atlas happened to walk in with a mug of steaming milk in his hand.
Layla squeaked, pulling the blanket up to cover herself. Her face flushed hot with embarrassment. She wished she could vanish into thin air.
Atlas’s eyes flashed with a strange glint as he cleared his throat. “You’re awake.”
Layla remembered that time back at boot camp. It was just like this, with Atlas helping her through her rut.
But back then, when she woke up, the first thing Atlas said was, “You’re awake, so get going.”
This time was different.
“If you want to freshen up, there’s a washroom right next door. Zee has unlocked everything for you, so feel free to use any facility you want,” Atlas said.
“I should get back to campus-” Layla mumbled.
“I suggest you take a shower first, change into some clean clothes, grab a bite to eat, and then go back, Atlas interrupted. Layla could smell the cedar pheromones clinging to her, and she felt totally wiped out. She could tell she wasn’t in any shape to head back to class right now.
Wrapped up in the blanket under Atlas’s watchful gaze, she headed into the washroom.
Zaa’s familiar voice rang out, “Layla, all the washroom facilities are ready for you. Would you like to take a bath?”
Layla was about to refuse, but the moment she moved, a wave of soreness hit her.
Even though she was still feeling the effects of her rut, the scattered flashes in her mind reminded her just how crazy things had gotten between them a few hours ago.
And honestly, she’d been the one taking charge most of the time.

With a blank expression, Layla said, “A bath sounds good. Make the water cooler, please.”
‘t really need to cool down, she thought to herself.
“All set, Layla. The bath’s ready with some relaxing oils, and twenty minutes is the sweet spot for soaking Your uniform’s been dry-cleaned and dried, so you can slip it on as soon as you’re done,” Zaa said.
“Okay,” Layla replied.
The blanket slid off, showing her long, slender figure, and those pink patches blooming on her skin made her face heat up in embarrassment. She hurriedly slipped into the warm water, desperate to hide herself.
She thought, ‘If it had been November, that would’ve been one thing.
‘But it just had to be Prince Atlas-wide awake and totally aware of everything!’
Layla pressed a hand to her forehead, mentally cursing out Krish, Tomas, and the rest of those bastards for what they’d done.
She never imagined they’d be so despicable as to use trigger pheromones on her.
‘Just planning to toss me straight into Tomas’s bed?’ Layla fumed inwardly.
‘Seriously, how shameless can the Crown Prince of Alpha Prime get?’ she thought, her anger boiling over.
Twenty minutes later, Layla got her act together, threw on her uniform, and walked out of the washroom.
When she stepped out, Atlas was on the phone with someone.
“Yeah, I gave Krish a good thrashing,” Atlas said casually.
